KENNETH JOSEPH HARTLE
June 17, 1943 - November 8, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of "Grandpa Ken" on November 8, 2020, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.
Ken leaves to mourn his loving wife Jean of 55 years; son Darryl (Sarah); grandchildren, Evan and Joel; brothers, Terry (Debbie) and Dennis; sisters-in-law, Ellen and Fran; brothers-in-law, Carl (Patricia) and Harold (Valerie); as well as nieces and nephews, Deana, Brandi, Doug, Dean, Jackie, Randy, Melody, Michele, Jennifer, Eric, Scott, and Heather. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Julia; his brother Tom; his brothers-in-law, Bob (Fran) and Brian (Ellen).
The oldest of four boys, Ken was born in Teulon, Manitoba and spent his childhood living in various towns throughout the Interlake, until meeting and marrying Jean and moving to Winnipeg in 1965. In Dad's later years, he spent most of his time with Mom, simply enjoying the day outside in the yard at home or sneaking off together for lunch at the mall. Weekends and holidays were spent outdoors on the farm near Lundar fixing old tractors with the uncles and visiting with friends and family. In their decades of marriage, Ken and Jean were rarely ever apart, the strength of their bond to be admired.
Ken's greatest joy was watching his two grandchildren, Evan and Joel, participate in their various sports. Grandpa Ken and Amma Jean attended everything the boys did, even watching their practices. Prior to Ken's retirement, he worked for over 40 years in the automotive industry, building many long lasting friendships. His knowledge of automotive parts is legendary and his ability to help problem solve was unparalleled. Dad was always willing to lend a hand and never said no - he truly cared about everyone. Another passion of Dad's in the years prior to his heart illness was hunting. Whether it be in the fields surrounding Lundar, or in the woods of Northwestern Ontario, Dad enjoyed the sport, but really it was all about the time he got to spend with the people he was with.
With heavy hearts, we are grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and kind remembrances from friends and extended family. Dad's wishes were to be cremated with no formal service afterward, therefore a small family gathering celebrating his life will be held in 2021.

We love you Grandpa Ken, and are sad
we don't have more time with you, but
have many special memories to cherish.

  • I knew Ken through the automotive world, off and on right up to when he retired. He kept in touch with me at my current work location when he would contact me for parts for his Ford Escape. I even dropped parts off to his home this last August. It was always great to hear from him and tell me about the farm, cars and and the grand kids. He always asked how I was and my family was. He made me feel like he was my Uncle Ken. My deepest sympathies to Jean and your family.
