Their youngest son, George Edward Stevenson, Navigator on a Halifax Bomber, died on February 26, 1944, after volunteering to replace another lad named Stevenson who was feeling ill that night. The plane was shot down over Klelund Plantation, Denmark. George is buried nearby at Ebsjerg Cemetery.
Thomas and Maggie had eleven children. Thomas died holding baby George in 1919. Maggie lived to age 96 and died in 1971 after raising the family with the help of the older siblings. How many mothers lost their oldest son in the First World War and their youngest son in the Second World War?
Their other children included Elizabeth (Jack Moore), Alex (Dorothy Duce), Violet (Dunc McAdam), Margaret, Harold (Iva Hanson), Chad (Mary Vernelly), Jean (Garnet Angus), Anne (Ed Couling) and one son lost at birth.
Living grandchildren of Thomas and Maggie include Anne Moore Lawson Waddell, Margaret Stevenson Mundie, Ken Stevenson, Marilyn Stevenson Adam, Dale Stevenson and Fred Stevenson. Deceased grandchildren include Jack Moore, Myrna Stevenson Sharp, Jack Stevenson, June Stevenson Holden, Beth Couling McNeill, Rae Couling and Tommy Angus.
