WALLY ESCHUK

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wally Eschuk, age 89 years. After a long and full life Wally passed away on November 14, 2020, at the Maples Nursing Home. Family and friends held a distant vigil of prayers and much love for his peaceful cross over.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 31, 1931; and was an only child to Katherine and Nicholas Eschuk. He married his beautiful wife, Olga Tataryn, on June 11, 1955 and was a devoted husband for 65 years. He was also a loving, committed father to their four children, Barry (Tess), Patricia (Michael), Teresa and Karen; and took great pride and joy in the lives of his four grandsons, Nicholas, Nikolai, James and Maximilian.
Wally, Olga and family spent many summer holidays together enjoying the family cottage in Winnipeg Beach. They enjoyed their retirement years travelling in the winter to warmer climates particularly Hawaii, and spending time with their grandchildren, family and many friends.
Wally was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4138 and a fourth degree Knight of Canon Luhovy Assembly. He was an active member in Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Wally worked for Temro Automotive but his real love was his bar tending business where he spent many a Saturday night tending bars at weddings, socials, and private parties. His happy, sociable personality was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
There will be a private service on November 19, 2020. He will be buried in All Saints Cemetery with his relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society which was his charity of choice. Wally participated in the Winnipeg MS walk-a-thon since its conception.

The depth of our grief mirrors
the depth of our love for you.
You live on in our hearts forever.
Never good bye, only farewell for a time.

Affectionately known as Uncle Wally to all friends and neighbours who can forget his famous green 66 Chevrolet Belair station wagon that matched the house trim on Inkster Boulevard. He was well known for his love of sports and his involvement in coaching at Frank Whyte and wearing those famous blue Winnipeg Hawkeye jackets that were so coveted. His love for bartending and mentoring a young bartender will always be appreciated. • Mine as well as my family's condolences to "Ollie", Barry, Patricia, Teresa, and Karen. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Eschuk family during this difficult time. I also have fond memories of "Uncle Wally" and wanted to share one that brings a smile to my face when I remember it, and hope it will bring one to you. My fondest memory of "Uncle Wally" was the day he took Barry's mini-bike for a spin down the back lane on Inkster. Showing his skill and prowess handling the bike he promptly piled into the garbage cans of our neighbor across the lane as we rushed in to see if he was hurt. All was well [other than his ego] and it made for a real good laugh. Neighborhoods now don't resemble the one I grew up in. The entire block was our "home" and everyone's parents were surrogate parents - and hence, he was "Uncle Wally". So grateful to have those memories. P.S. Walter, thanks for allowing me to "marry" Patricia when we were "six" - LOL. Take care all, remember the good times and rest assured the world is a better place because of Walter Eschuk. - Posted by: Craig Plysiuk (Friend/Neighbor) on: Nov 19, 2020

  • Thank You Wally for your jokes & sense of humour, I always enjoyed sitting beside you at the Mort’s Christmas Parties over the past years. You had a great sense of humour & knew how to get everyone laughing 😆! The girls at work miss buying & getting the Grey cup tickets from you, they always were happy whether they won or not... But when they won they couldn’t wait to share their happy news with me. Thank You Wally & Ollie for sharing the time I’ve had with you! Memories from you & Wally will live in my heart ❤️.
