FRANCES CAROLINE CHANAS
(nee CIEMNY)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Caroline Chanas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Frances was called to rest in the Lord's care on November 14, 2020, at Maples Personal Care Home after a courageous battle with Covid-19.
Frances spent her early years in Winnipeg, Manitoba prior to her family moving to Arborg, Manitoba where they opened Arborg Bakery. It was in Arborg where she met and married the love of her life Martin Chanas. She always spoke fondly of dancing Ukrainian polkas with Martin at Crabby Steve's. Frances and Martin later relocated to Winnipeg, where they worked and raised their family. Frances worked as a sales clerk for Clark's, Gambles, Zellers and Mappins until her retirement. Frances loved to cook and bake for her family. She enjoyed travelling with her husband Martin. Their favourite place to visit was Hawaii. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed attending services at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She loved to entertain and took great pleasure from spending time with her family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Deborah (Ivan) Perija; son Wayne Chanas; grandchildren, Shannon (Warren) Gosselin, and Brittany Perija, and Katrina and Brianna Chanas; great-grandson Weston Gosselin; sisters-in-law, Helen and Winnie Chanas; and nieces and nephew. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Martin; parents, Stephan and Catherine; and brothers Walter and Martin.
The family would like to thank the hard working staff at Maples Personal Care Home for all the love, compassion and care they provided to Frances over the last ten years. In particular we would like to thank Faye, Lanie, Rey and the rest of the 2 West staff.
Due to current restrictions a private service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

  • She was on the same floor as my Mom and I would always get her coffee and juice in the dining room before covid. She was always happy even when her stomach was bothering her. She called me Honey whenever she saw me and I loved talking to her. So sorry for your loss may she rest in peace. - Posted by: Cathy Meissner (Aquantence) on: Nov 20, 2020
