She initially completed her Bachelor of Science nursing degree from the University of Manitoba and began her first job at St. Boniface Hospital in her hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Upon relocating to Toronto, Ontario in 1991, she worked as a nurse at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Chris worked as a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology at Yale New Haven Hospital for the remainder of her career.
In addition to Chris' rewarding nursing career, her passion for ballroom dancing became her second career when she and Martin opened their dance studio.
Throughout her battle with cancer, her love and relationship with God strengthened. Chris passed away as the sun rose over the beautiful ocean view of Long Island Sound from her room.
Thank you to Dr. Ratner and the Oncology team, to all the nurses and the hospice staff for your wonderful care and support.

  • My heartfelt sympathy to Chris’s family and loved ones. I met her several times at ballroom events and knew her little bit. Each time I saw what a lovely, warm, joyous, generous person she was with her children, her family and friends. She brought light and happiness where ever she went. Am truly saddened about her passing and her loss to her family and friends. Her life is a true testament of how one can live: with grace , dignity and hope under adversity . My prayers and thoughts are for her and her family. - Posted by: Dr. Rose Yu-Chin (Am student at Southbury’s Fred Astaire. Met her and Marin at the competition events.) on: Nov 22, 2020

  • I met Chris in the mid 1990s when she lived in Toronto. As anyone who knows her will agree, she was a bright light with the greatest energy I've ever known. Chris had such love for life, and her laughter was contagious. She was generous, kind, and always learning new skills and eager to have new adventures. We lost touch a few years after she moved to Connecticut, but we re-connected after I learned of her cancer diagnosis. She was so excited to be Babtized. Her relationship with the Lord gave her great peace. I will always remember our good times together, and I'll never forget her. Sending my deepest condolences and prayers to Martin, Lea, Morgan and Reed. God bless you all. - Posted by: Cheryl Van Waterschoot (Old friend) on: Nov 22, 2020

  • To all of Chris’ family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. We have many years of memories of growing up with Chris in Winnipeg - family cottages, Grand Beach, university, weddings, moving away, time spent with our new babies, and just being together. A punch in the shoulder from her, her big grin and then a hug is a fond memory - she was always the sparkle in the room! - Posted by: Jeff and Janine Sherman (Old friends) on: Nov 22, 2020

  • I met Chris when she she came to ICM to take the ICU course. She was always fun loving, kind, and a great nurse. She used to make me laugh with her perfectionist ways. Not only was she very particular about her appearance but I recall her decorating her bathrooms and fussing over the tooth brushes having to match the towel colours. She was hilarious and everyone adored her. I M saddened to hear of her passing. Chris, the suffering is over, God’s speed. Until we meet again. Thank you for your kindness and wonderful smile. • My heartfelt condolences go out to Martin, Morgan, Lea, Reed, Joanne and all of Chris’s family and friends. The world has lost a shining star! I worked with Chris on CVT at SBGH in the late 80s until she left Manitoba. She was a joy to work with and breath of fresh air. Her twinkling eyes and her sparkly smile with her bright pink lipstick would light up any room. May all your wonderful memories of her bring you comfort as you carry on with her in your hearts. - Posted by: Cindy Lo (Co-worker) on: Nov 21, 2020
