STEWART (STEW) LEO MCCULLOCH
Stew was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on July 9, 1945, the day of a solar eclipse. He lived there until his graduation from high school, when he moved to Saskatoon to study music, under Murray Adaskin in the Fine Arts program at the University of Saskatchewan. Stew loved music and played guitar, tuba and trumpet. Stew moved to Winnipeg in the 1970s and leaves behind friends at 64 Nassau and his Friday dinner gang at Villa Cabrini. Many will remember Stew as the guy who travelled around the Osborne district on his scooter summer and winter.
Bridge playing was one of Stew's delights, playing three times a week, and then online when COVID no longer allowed it in person. One year, he and his bridge partner, won the silver medal in the Canadian Senior's Games.
Always the adventurer, he lived for a time in Yellowknife and Inuvik where he gained an appreciation of wildlife. He preserved this harsh but beautiful landscape through his photography, which soon became his full-time career. He became a well-known photographer and artist in Winnipeg, with his art displayed at photographic art shows and shown at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. To see Stew's art, go to www.artbystew.com.
A celebration of Stew's life will be held when gatherings are safe.

I am so sad to hear of Stew's passing. Stew has participated in many exhibitions with Arts AccessAbility Network Manitoba of which I am the Executive Director. He even participated in our latest exhibition in September 2020 called "In Solitude, Unity". Stew's humour and kindness has been something I have always admired. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Jenel Shaw (Art Colleague ) on: Jan 06, 2021
