KATHERINE SMADELLA

We mourn the passing of Katherine Smadella (90) from Moose Bay, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully on October 30, 2020, at the home of Sharon Guenther in Victoria, BC. Kate was predeceased by her husband, John, her daughter, Diane and her granddaughter, Tracey. She is survived by her sister, Nellie (Flin Flon), brother, Danny (Roblin) sons, Gordon (Winnipeg), Ernie (Moose Bay) and Brad (Vancouver) her daughters, Sharon (Victoria), JoAnn (Victoria) and Valerie (Illinois), her grandchildren, Dale (Nova Scotia), Dawn (La Broquerie), Amber (Iowa), Christopher (Illinois), Jody (Winnipeg), Jonnathan (Winnipeg), Matthew (Nanaimo), Jonathan (Victoria), great-grandchildren, Joshua (Steinbach), Brayden (La Broquerie), Meadow (La Broquerie), Olivia (Winnipeg), Nicholas (Winnipeg), Silas (Nanaimo), and Liam (Nova Scotia).
Kate and John were married on January 19, 1949, they lived on the farm in Moose Bay, raised animals, crops and seven children. Kate later moved to Ste. Rose du Lac where she became involved in the Women's Auxiliary and helped with the Day Program at the Gendreau Home. She loved crafting and playing bingo. A few years ago, Kate moved to Victoria, BC and was looked after by her daughters, Sharon and JoAnn until her passing.

There will be a memorial for Kate in summer of 2021, where she will be reunited with her husband at Weiden Cemetery.
