MENORAH WALDMAN

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Menorah Waldman on November 18, aged 95. Menorah lived a full and rich life, filled with family, friends, music, literature and Yiddishkeit.
Menorah leaves behind many family and friends, her son Dovid and daughter Yona (Cam); grandchildren, Louise (David), Sarah (Shawn), Marin (Sam), Charlotte (Jason) and Ryder; great-grandchildren, Riel, Aliyah, Eva, Cassady and Cleo and daughter-in-law Diane. She is also mourned by her nephews, her great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Sarah Gorvich; her son Aili; grandson Cassady; husband Bert and nieces, Shira and Carol.
Her door was always open and her warmth and generosity to all were legendary. She was a proud north ender, graduating from St. John's before going to university. She and Bert married in 1945 and raised three children while supporting many organizations, Chevra Mishnayes synagogue, North End Yiddish Folk Choir and others. She volunteered with the Fringe Festival, WSO, PTE and Gwen Secter, where she served as Board chair.
When Menorah retired in her 60s, she became a certified fitness instructor. Until the age of 89, she regularly swam and taught aquafit and aerobics. She swam competitively at the Masters level, winning dozens of medals.
Menorah leaves behind a rich legacy of activism. She was a lifelong feminist and socialist, remaining politically engaged until the onset of dementia in her early 90s.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Simkin Centre for their compassionate and loving care, especially on Simkin 1.
Donations in her memory may be made to Simkin's spiritual care fund or to Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre.
