BRIAN MANSON McEWAN
He is survived by wife Colleen (née Whibley); son and family, Jamie, Laura, Morgan and Sullivan; sister Dayle; brother Donnie; brothers-in-law, Fred (Janet) and Alex (Ann), and sister-in-law, Evelyn (Bruce) and their families.
Brian grew up in East Kildonan in Winnipeg on a street with 23 boys of similar age in a one square block area. They entertained and terrorized the neighbourhood, which Brian held in high regard. He became a great swimmer and water polo player. Brian obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with the University of Winnipeg in 1974, the year Brian and Colleen wed. After graduating, he worked for Applied Photogrammetric Sciences, some contract jobs, and various departments of the Manitoba Government. Of particular note were the three years he spent inspecting winter roads in Manitoba's north, which left an indelible mark on his life. Brian and Colleen moved to BC in 1980, where Brian worked for Planistics, Western Land Consultants, Associated Engineering and finally the District of Lake Country as Engineering Services Manager until retiring in 2012. In each of the communities he contributed, he made them better. Brian loved driving and taking many trips back to Manitoba; particularly Dorothy and Nutimik Lakes where he spent most of the summers in his youth, loved every moment, met Colleen and made some lifelong friends.

So sorry to hear about Brian one of the original Bronx boys. Time flies because it does not seem as long ago as it is. We had a great bunch of guys and girls, the good old YMCA days, street hockey, football games. Growing up surviving the 60s+70s which were better than the world we live in now. Rest in peace my old but not forgotten friend. - Posted by: Sid Ruta (Very old Winnipeg friend) on: Dec 12, 2020

Colleen and family Thinking of you and wishing you peace during this difficult time. I will always remember our time at the Dorothy Lake dump telling ghost stories and cramming into the Austin. Sorrow does fade and memories will bring smiles know that there are many friends who love you and wish you well. - Posted by: Diane Vande Vyvere (Nutimik Lake Friend) on: Nov 29, 2020

Dear Dayle & Donnie, I was saddened to learn of Brian's passing. I have thought of all of you often over the years & wondered where everyone ended up in their lives. Your Mom was one of the kindest people I ever met. She helped my family out lots. Your Dad was the big quiet guy. I remember the birthday parties and the "scrub" baseball games on the street. How we all had to be home when the street lights went on. I always envied you when you got to spend every weekend at the family cottage at Nutimuk Lake. Those were much simpler times. I am so sorry for your loss. Brian was the quiet one in your family. A real nice kid. Take care of each other. Sincerely, Wendy - I can be found on facebook with the group "I grew up in East Kildonan, North Kildonan & Elmwood" Great group. Check it out. It is a fun group to chat with. - Posted by: Wendy Hatch (nee Perry) (Old neighourhood friend) on: Nov 28, 2020
