LESLEY CRASSWELLER
(nee STUTELY)
1931 - 2020

Lesley was born in Brighton, England where she grew up during the war years. At age 14, she and twin brother Keith left school to work. In 1948, they came to Canada with their parents and siblings. She worked at the Tribune Newspaper as an assistant country editor, then in 1951 as an assistant United Church Minister in Red Lake, Ontario. In 1960, she fulfilled her dream and became a staff member at North Winnipeg Inner City Church. There, Lesley and Ken met, worked and married in 1960.
Following her vow, "Wherever thou goest, I will go," Lesley and Ken became a team, working and parenting together in most provinces and the Arctic. Together they met many who are still friends today, many welcomed Lesley into their choirs.
During those years, Lesley was successful as a School Special Needs Teacher's Assistant and as a church CGIT (girl's group) mentor. She also continued authoring as an informed and gifted writer.
Lesley is predeceased by her parents, Stan and Dorothy Stutely; sisters, Jean and Barbara; twin brother Keith and daughter Marnie.
She is survived by her husband Rev. Ken Crassweller; their sons, Andrew and Mark and their families; nieces, Erica and Rosemary; as well as nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, care workers and support staff at (Rivera) James Bay Care Centre for their empathetic devotion and caring for Lesley during her dementia journey.

  • I am so heartbroken to see Lesley's obituary - and even more heartbroken that she passed a year and a half ago :( Lesley left a lasting legacy in my heart. Very few days go by in a row that she is not in my thoughts. I first met Lesley in the fall of 1995 when I joined CGIT. I was an outcast among my peers, having just moved to Taber in April that same year. I was painfully shy and fearful, often sitting just outside of the group on my own, observing and quietly wishing to be a part. Lesley never gave up on me. Between her, Bonnie, and Carol, I was brought wholly into the group. Lesley and I attended summer camp a couple of years in a row, and became good friends. Lesley loved unconditionally, was exceedingly patient (even with a frustratingly chatterbox like myself, once I became comfortable), and was truly one of the most amazing people I have ever met. I count myself honoured to have had her not just in my life, but to have her remain in my heart. Love to all. Miss you a lot, Lesley. - Posted by: Kari Polsom Mayer (Former CGIT Kid) on: May 25, 2022

  • Lesley was a wonderful compassionate Christian lady. I met her and Ken through my wife Pat's involvement in the CGIT program. Lesley was involved at the CGIT Camp at Brereton lake as a Leader and "Camp Mom" for many years. Travelling west we would always have the opportunity to drop in on Lesley and Ken at Ken's various postings throughout western Canada and always received a warm welcome from them both. Lesley always started or became involved in may CGIT groups across Canada and would bring groups of campers from various locations to the camp at Brereton Lake. I know from past experience with my dear Pat that this awful illness of dementia robs the mind of the person that you love. It is my hope and my prayer that the love of so many prior years of joy will sustain you Ken and family. She and Pat will have so much to share as they meet again. May God's Blessings be with you Ken. - Posted by: Mel Finlayson (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2020
