FRANK IAN KENNETH MANSON
May 31, 1935 - November 21, 2020
Ian was born in 1935, in Winnipeg, to Eileen and Irving Manson.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Georgette (Georgie); children, Greg, Gloria, and Glen (Lorraine); grandchildren, Alexis, Thaddeus, Jian Julius, Samson, Jenna and Ethan; great-grandson, Alexandre; brother-in-law, Roger Forest; sisters-in-law, Terry Placktis, Pauline Forest, Arlene Forest and JoAnne Forest; nieces and nephews; and many friends that he had made throughout his life.
Ian was a devoted husband and father. He was a great role model to his children, and was always there to help them in any way that he could. Ian dearly loved his grandchildren, and was always so happy to see them. He was always available to help people in any way he could, family and friends, in fact he was given the nickname "Ian can".
Ian spent his entire career as a dedicated employee of Manitoba Telephone System, retiring on December 31, 1991.
One of Ian's greatest joys was spending time at the cottage in Minaki, Ontario. He built the cottage in 1973, along with help from family and friends. This was a labour of love, considering the many challenges of constructing a remote cottage. The cottage was one of Ian's greatest accomplishments, and has led to years of wonderful times and memories with family and friends. He formed many valued friendships at "the lake", and looked forward to the experiences with them year after year. Closing the cottage for the season was always a sad time because it meant being away from Minaki, the place he truly cherished most.
Ian's last years were very difficult as he battled the effects of Alzheimer's disease. He spent the last few years of his life at Deer Lodge Centre.
The family would like to thank the Deer Lodge Centre staff for the wonderful care they provided him.
Ian will be sadly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
In accordance with Ian's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment has taken place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Mr. Manson through many years as a receptionist at his family doctor's office. He always warmed my heart when he came in, always polite, quiet and appreciative. He will be missed greatly. To his wife Georgette, I am so very sorry for your loss. May your heart be warmed with many great memories of years spent with such a caring soul. - Posted by: Lisa (Receptionist at doctor's office) on: Dec 08, 2020

Ian was always such a pleasant man to meet up with. I always enjoyed his company at family events such as birthday events for the grandkids etc. So patient and ready to be of service. A very loving and Intelligent man with a good sense of humour. He will be missed. - Posted by: Adelard Gendron (Family relationships) on: Nov 28, 2020

An unassuming man with a singular confidence who went about his business in a quiet and thoughtful manner. He was always good to our family and many others. Personally I cannot recall him ever saying no to helping out or volunteering for something others would quickly take a pass on. His and my Aunts personal philanthropy is/was generous. If for nothing else let’s just say he’s the kind of guy you could have a beer with. You will be missed Uncle and in the hereafter if God asks you to wire something...say no for once! - Posted by: Charles Placktis (Nephew ) on: Nov 28, 2020

Very sorry to hear of Ian’s passing. I had the privilege of working with Ian from 1990-1994 when he led our Switching Standards team within the Network Standards Department at MTS. The Switching Standards team tested, validated, approved and introduced many of the “cool” telephone features we simply take for granted today. I have great memories of those years at MTS and working with Ian. I also remembering Ian talking a lot about the “cottage”. It was no doubt that the cottage was one of his favourite family pastimes. - Posted by: Len Dacombe (Work Colleague) on: Nov 28, 2020

Georgette & family Our deepest condolences. We remember Ian with smiles on our faces. It was always so good to see him on our visits to Winnipeg. He was a “class act”, the kind of man that one loves to know. May his memories make you smile through your tears.
