DEMOND (nee Smith): The death of Kathleen "Kae" Linda Demond occurred at Fairview Home on Thursday, November 26, 2020 due to complications arising from the Covid-19 virus. Kae was born April 7, 1927 to the late Reuben and Annie (nee Drader) Smith and was raised on the family farm south west of Wawanesa. She attended the Chesley school two miles west of the farm when transportation to and from school was either on or behind a horse. Kae maintained a lifelong love of horses. She attended business college in Winnipeg and went on to work for the Department of National Defense for many years. While in Winnipeg, she met John and they married on November 7, 1953, and they enjoyed a loving marriage until John's passing on June 25, 2003. Together they went on two military tours in Germany from 1954-1956 and 1963-1965 and met many lifelong friends along the way. Kae and John were avid square dancers and travelled to many jamborees around the country. She spent many years involved with the women's auxiliary for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Number 3 and was honored to receive the "Meritorious Service" award, of which she was very proud. Kae attended and volunteered at Central United Church and helped out with many functions well into her 80's. Always eager to help, she was very social and enjoyed get togethers with her friends and hosted teas as often as she could. One of her favourite expressions was "heaven's sake", and now she is surely in Heaven. Kae is survived by her daughter Faye Smith; son Brian and grandson Johnathon; son Kenneth (Lisa) and grandchildren Kyler and Kelsey (Matthew); and sister Muriel Abbott. She was predeceased by her husband John; brothers Cliff, Jack and Clayton; and special friend Darcy Plante. The family would like to thank all those on the fourth floor at Fairview Home for their dedication and hard work caring for Kathleen, especially during this difficult time. The Celebration of Kae's Life will take place when it is safe to gather together again. Donations in Kae's memory may be made to help others who may be struggling at this time through the Samaritan House Ministries Inc., 820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0J1.

  • I apologize Kay, I'm not sure if we ever met but my mom tells me that you were my Dad's cousin. My dad was Bob Drader. I don't know any family on his side but you sound like an amazing woman and I'm sad you left this world before I could get to know you. Were you the reason my Dad took up square dancing, I wonder? Holding you in my heart. May you rest in peace. Condolences to my/the family. - Posted by: Holly Turnbull (Cousin) on: Dec 09, 2020

  • So sad to hear! Kay was a client at Systems Beauty College and she was such a sweetheart to have as a client. She will be missed! - Posted by: Donna Pawchuk (friend) on: Dec 08, 2020

  • I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Kay. You could usually hear her wonderful luagh before you saw her. Her stories about her trip out west to visit family were always entertaining. She loved to hear stories about travel and adventures. So young at heart. She was loved by many friends at the Legion. She will be missed and my prayers go out to the family. - Posted by: Catheryn Lebeau (friend) on: Dec 05, 2020
