TERRY NYKIFORUK
Terry was predeceased by his parents, wife Alice, son Bill, and brothers, Marko and Karpo. He is survived by his brothers, Ray and Steve, daughter Christine (William), grandsons, Vlad (Bonnie), Nick (Laura), Peter (Brandi) and their respective families of seven great-grandchildren.
Terry started life in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, lived in a small home in Witko, Saskatchewan. He worked in the family restaurant, served in the naval cadets (where else would a boy from the prairies serve?) and eventually married his love Alice.
They lived in Saskatchewan, Alberta and eventually ended up in Winnipeg when he got a job with the Post Office. Terry stayed with the Post Office until he retired. On the side, he shingled many a roof in Transcona.
Terry was always community minded. He and his family were instrumental with other church members in getting their church up and running. He was the first secretary for All Saints Orthodox Church in Transcona. There was many a weekend where he spent time helping in the church hall, doing anything that was needed to raise money for the church mortgage.
After retirement Terry and Alice moved back to Watson, SK, and was very active in the local community. Eventually they moved back to Winnipeg to be close to their daughter and their grandchildren.
Terry's great love, other than his family, was being in the outdoors. In winter he was cross-country skiing, in the summer, camping and fishing. In the fall he would go hunting, and spring was for gardening. He really loved nature.
Terry was also a very proud Canadian. They travelled to the east and west coasts and the province in between. Terry loved Canadian History and reading. In his later years, his great joy was watching his great-grandchildren play. He would sit there for hours just watching the little ones. When the time was right, picking berries, mushrooms, gardening and going for walks were his passions ... anything that would get him outdoors.
