TAMARA MARGARET KUBRAK
(nee KOLPAKOWA)
May 28, 1923 - December 1, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who died peacefully at the Holy Family Nursing Home, on December 1, 2020.
Mother was born in Samara, Russia, to Peter and Margaret Kolpakowa, the youngest of two children. Her brother, Leonid, perished at the Russian front during the Second World War; her father, Peter, died in Rostov on the Don in 1971; and her mother, Margaret, died in Winnipeg in 1967.
At the end of the Second World War, mother met and married John Kubrak on March 18, 1946, in Austria, and gave birth to their son, Alexander, in 1947. Soon after the small family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg, where their daughter, Nora, was born in 1952. Although busy with her family, assisting her aging mother, and helping her husband in the garment industry, mother had an insatiable desire to achieve a higher education. In 1967 she graduated from the University of Manitoba Teachers College, and began teaching at St. Ignatius School. Later returning to the University of Manitoba to obtain her BA in 1972 and her MA in 1976, during which time she was employed by the university under Professor Serge Radchuk.
Mother was especially gifted in speaking and reading many languages. She could flawlessly, without hesitation, converse in six different languages. After she graduated with her master's degree, she returned to teaching in the Transcona and St. Vital School Divisions, and she also taught in the French Immersion schools. She was truly gifted. Throughout her lifetime, mother loved music and she gave private piano lessons to young children for many years, and was also involved in teaching Ukrainian dancing. After her well-deserved retirement, she travelled with her husband until his death on July 17, 2003.
Tamara Margaret Kubrak will be forever remembered by her children, Alexander (Debbie) and Nora (Edward); her grandchildren, Michael, Salena, John (Jennifer), Tamara (Wojciech), Anita (Steven); and great-grandchildren, Trey, Joshua, Jacob, Viktoria and Anna.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Holy Family Home and their entire staff for their many years of wonderful, attentive, loving care.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
