RAYMOND THOMAS MALECH

It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond Thomas Malech, aged 90 years, announce his passing on November 29, 2020, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; his daughter Kathryn of Toronto, his sons, Richard, Robert (Leah), Ronald (Sandy) and Rodney; grandchildren, Ryan (Janelle), Kristyn (Mark) and Stacey (Lucas); great-grandchildren, Carter, Claire, Ellis and Riel; sister Evelyn of Toronto; brother-in-law Cyril Haidinyak (Judy) of Toronto, and by other relatives from his wife Elizabeth's family.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, John and Anne Malech and his first wife Elizabeth Malech (nee Haidinyak).
Raymond Thomas Malech (hereafter "Dad") was born in Port Arthur, Ontario. Dad had a crazy dream to have a family of five lovable and well-behaved children (ok, at least loveable) and to move to Western Canada! (hey, that's what happened, must be true). Shortly after finishing his education he moved to Toronto (hmm, Toronto is east of Port Arthur!) where he met and married a girl who shared those crazy dreams (we might be romanticizing this just a little): Elizabeth (hereafter "Mom") in July, 1954. Their first child, Richard was born in Toronto, Rob, Ron Kathy and Rodney were born in Winnipeg (see Dad and Mom did move west!). Dad and Mom raised their five children until her passing in 1979. He married Shirley Nagy in 1983. After Dad and Shirley were divorced he married Marjorie Hans in 1997 to whom he was married at the time of his passing.
Dad was an outgoing, friendly and talkative type person and so he rightly chose his lifelong and varied career in business mostly in sales (this is really true, in fact, our eldest sibling, Richard, said "if anyone could talk his way into heaven, it would be Dad"). Dad was also the co-owner of a number of small businesses including Precision Built Manufacturing, Triple Coat Car Painting (for which he and partner Lorne Hasinoff were infamous for their T.V. commercials which were funny and sort of embarrassing at the same time) and Springfield Plastics. Dad's last position was with Penner Oil as a sales consultant for almost 15 years prior to his retirement.
Dad was a pretty good father, not always perfect but he got the job done (his actual words were "I may not always be right but I am never wrong"). Dad/ Grandad left all of us kids and grandkids with some fond memories.
As we grew Dad did his best to support and encourage us in our endeavours. We loved him and will miss him dearly.
Dad would want us to mention that he was a devout Catholic and was actively involved in the church throughout his life .
The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at Holy Family Personal Care Home for their attentive care of Dad for the past couple of years while he was a resident.
A small private service was held on Friday, December 4, 2020, at Thomson "In the Park" with Father Darrin Gurr of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla Catholic Parish presiding.
The family hopes to have a larger celebration of his life once it is safe and permitted.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. Ray and Dad (Jack) were great friends at Holy Family. They shared many enjoyable conversations together at the dinner table together. Every time I came to visit dad, I would seek out Ray to see how he was doing and always ended up having an enjoyable conversation with him. When Dad was also sick with covid, the odd time I was able to get an update on Ray as well. I was so saddened to hear he had passed. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Maureen Hepples (Friend) on: Dec 16, 2020

  • Dear Ron, Sandy and family. We offer our condolences for your loss. Focus on the happy memories of which you have many. Sincerely, Maureen and Bob Corkal. - Posted by: Maureen and Bob Corkal (Friend) on: Dec 15, 2020

  • Ray was always a very friendly person with a wonderful sense of humor. He and Maggie sat directly behind me in church and quite often we would get into a conversation before mass started. Ray always had a funny quip or a cute little one liner that would have me in stitches. He will be sadly missed. My sincere condolences to Maggie and the family. Rest in peace, good friend, and may God bless and keep you. Mike Mayer/Church Friend - Posted by: Mike Mayer (Church Friend) on: Dec 12, 2020
