LUCY LEWIS
April 21, 1923 - December 2, 2020
She was born in a small town in Poland and moved with her family to Mozart, Saskatchewan in 1926. Her father Carl Waldman (d. 1984) and mother Mussie (d. 1957) moved to Melville and then to Winnipeg, where Lucy completed high school and obtained a degree in home economics from the University of Manitoba in 1944. After a year in Montreal working as a laboratory technician, she returned to Winnipeg, where she met the love of her life, Monty (d. 1995) on a blind date. They instantly knew they were destined for each other and were married in 1948. Monty was in the poultry business in Moose Jaw, where they settled and spent 42 years before moving to Winnipeg in 1990. Lucy worked in the family business, honed her excellent cooking skills, acted in amateur theatre productions, painted some pleasing still lifes, and became an avid bridge player. She and Monty spent 20 happy winters in Scottsdale, often visited by sons grateful to escape the Canadian winter. She loved serious fiction and theatre, volunteered at the library, and baked prodigiously for Hadassah. She put together first rate seders. She would be the first to say that it was no mitzvah to outlive Monty and her friends, but she was a trouper to the end, never losing her sense of humour and grateful for her final decade at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence. When her condition declined she was lucky to have excellent care coordinated by Lynne Fineman and Jenn Douglas of Successful Aging, and provided by Cindy St. Hilaire and her warm, devoted, and compassionate staff at Blossoms Senior Care, and Manitoba Home Care.
She was predeceased by her sister Zita in 2010. She leaves her sons, Robert (Margaret) of Montreal and Steven (Kira) of Melbourne, Australia, happy for her gentle and merciful end, and sad that the pandemic made the farewell remote.

I was very surprised to learn of Lucy's passing. We want to express our condolences to Robert and Steven. She had a great life and wonderful marriage to Monty. I believe that I, Mark and my brother Gerry are the only cousins on the Waldman side still living. She will be missed. - Posted by: Mark and Reva Waldman (Cousin) on: Dec 12, 2020

I am Lucy's first cousin. I was at her wedding to Monty and Reva & I visited her and Monty in Arizona. I also visited her in Shaftsbury in Winnipeg. She was quite a bit older than me and I was closer to her sister Zita. I think I might be the last Waldman first cousin still living. She was a very smart and interesting person. Unfortunately I have not visited Winnipeg for a long times I haven't seen Lucy for many years. Please extend our sympathy to her two sons. - Posted by: Mark and Reva Waldman (Cousin) on: Dec 12, 2020
