JOHN (BARCLAY) BALLENTYNE
August 18, 1970 - December 3, 2020
Those who knew John Jr., or Barclay to family, lost a shining light in their lives. His kind and generous spirit will be missed.
John will be missed every day by his parents, John Sr. and Sadie Ballentyne, his sister Natalie and her son Sage Regehr, his fiancé Gwen Traverse, stepdaughter Stephanie, his son Nicholas Rogers, Nicholas' mother, Kathy, daughter Kayla Ballentyne-Schmidt, his special cousin Tracey Sobo, his loving Aunt Catherine McAuley and her husband Jack Sobo, his Aunt Lorraine Smith, Uncles Ray, Russell and his Uncle Casey who was his best friend, as well as many close cousins, extended family and friends. John's most beloved friend, his dog, Nation, who was his constant companion, will also miss his best friend.
John Jr. was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Angus and Doris McAuley, his paternal grandmother, Mary Jane Kenny and his sister Erica with whom he had a special bond - including the fact that they were both born at above average weights for newborns. Erica was born 10 lbs 2 oz, while John was born at 11 lbs 5 oz. As they grew up, they were always mistaken for being older than they actually were.
Barclay attended Victory Elementary School, Jefferson Junior High and Garden City Collegiate. He then went on to graduate from the Power Engineering Class 5 Program delivered by the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development located in the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg.
Barclay enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything. He held a variety of building maintenance jobs with such places as the Victoria Albert School, the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg, the Victoria Inn, South Beach Casino and the Fort Garry Hotel.
John was very well loved by all that knew him as he was kind, caring and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was known for his heart of gold and his quirky sense of humour which he shared with his Uncle Casey often. Since his passing, many have stated how special he was and how fortunate they were to have known him. They reminisce about his ever-present smile and his warm personality and how much they will miss him.
At this time Barclay has been cremated and there will be no funeral service due to the COVID-19 public health orders. Family is hopeful that we can gather to share memories when it is safe to do so. Please take a few minutes to honour his memory during these troubling times and hold your loved ones close to your heart.
Sleep well my baby until Dad and I see you and Erica again. We miss you both so much

Barclay, my favorite nephew. I know you got older you would let me know I was your own nephew. Lol 😆 Life is strange... I cared & I always had you in my heart ❤️. I always thought when I settled down - we would have time together. And just like your Dad, my big brother... I became a Dad much too early in my life journey & never really developed inner confidence to be the Uncle you deserved. My heart felt the deep sorrow when our Cousin Alfred called me to let me you left before me. 😢. I have not felt that deep sorrow since your Granny Ballantyne passed away. I suspect we will meet again... - Posted by: Robert Ballantyne (Uncle ) on: Aug 18, 2022

To my love, my partner and my best friend; my heart and spirit is so shattered. Losing you is the hardest to accept and I cannot imagine a life without you in it. Saying goodbye to you and the place we called home was the most difficult thing I had to ever endure. We shared a lot throughout our journey together with many promises. One of them is promising to care and love our fur baby, nation, just like you had. I know how precious she was to you (she was your number 3 in life, I was your number 2 and your mama was number 1 - you had always indicated we were the women of your life). Your heart was pure as gold and always thought of others before yourself. I love you for coming into my life and sharing yours. I will treasure you always. We love you and miss you dearly, until we meet again. - Posted by: Gwen Traverse (Partner ) on: Dec 14, 2020

My fondest memories of Barclay were playing at granny's, dancing together in granny's livingroom with all our aunt's n uncle's watching n tossing $ in a pile for our entertainment. We always went to corner store by granny's for candy n freezies. I talked to Barclay about 2 months ago. It was nice to hear his voice and we decided to get together in the New year for dinner. He said that would be great. I'm saddened he called me about a month ago while I was at wrk. I text Barclay later that eve that I was sorry that missed his call and said I would get back to him soon when I got a chance. I waited too long to make that return call to him. I'll always feel bad for that. I hope everyone in Barclay's life learn how to live without him to heal n mend our heart's for my cousin We will dearly miss our beloved John Jr Barclay McAuley xoxo - Posted by: Carrie McAuley (Cousin ) on: Dec 13, 2020
