FYI, Ellett's Restaurant was mentioned in "Canada: A Peoples History" on CBC Television--in the episode "Comfort & Fear 1946-1964". - Posted by: PAUL CASLER (Admirer) on: Jun 03, 2025

My condolences to the family. My knowledge of Jack was as the kid growing up next door. His youthfulness and relaxed friendliness, in comparison with the other neighbourhood dads, never seemed to compute in my child's brain, given that his son was older than me and most of the other neighbourhood kids. Our interactions never went much beyond a few friendly words but he was always a presence in my mind. My memory, perhaps mistaken, was that he was the only dad I knew who had a convertible. Very cool. - Posted by: Rowland Lorimer (Neighbour) on: Dec 16, 2020

We were so sorry to hear about Jack's passing. Our dad Keith Routley had his dental practice across the street from Jack’s restaurant. Also he had a cottage beside us at at Lake of the Woods. Both families would often get together. Water skiing, going on picnic’s down the lake, playing cards. Many great memories. The Routley Family - Posted by: Routley Family (Friend) on: Dec 13, 2020

Growing up in Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg in the 40's and 50's I fondly remember Mr. Ellett and Ellett's Restaurant. It would have been around 1950 that his fine looking restaurant that seemed a cut above others opened its doors. Clean, efficient serving quality meals (often hamburger and fries). Greaves restaurant across the street was the gathering spot of youth in the area but when trying to impress it was Ellett's restaurant that got the call. Operated by Mr Ellett who recognized the value of his customers.... even if ordering a hamburger with fries. Mr Ellett was a true restauranteur. My condolences to the Ellett family. - Posted by: John Rendall (customer/admirer) on: Dec 12, 2020
