MAXINE GRACE KARPYSHIN
(nee LLOYD)

Maxine Grace Karpyshin, aged 85, beloved wife of Steve Karpyshin of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2020, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, after a hard fought battle with congestive heart failure.
The family wishes to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff at both St. Boniface and Seven Oaks hospitals for their care and compassion during a difficult time. Special thanks are expressed to family physician Dr. Ian Kasloff, vascular surgeon Dr. April Boyd and home care nurse Cathy who all provided such dedicated and personable medical care to Maxine.
Maxine was born in Fort Frances, Ontario to Thomas and Goldie Lloyd on December 7, 1934. Her early life was spent within a large, hard working family eventually heading West and settling in Winnipeg. Maxine (Mickey or Max to many) found the love of her life and married Steve Karpyshin on July 15, 1953 in Winnipeg.
Maxine was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Goldie, siblings, Ronnie, Shirley, Thomas and James, husband Steve and children, Richard (Anne) and Marilyn (Joe).
Left to forever cherish Maxine's memory are her twin sister Marie (Ken), brother Leonard (Valerie), and children, Stephen (Linda), Sherry (Craig), Liza (Sandy), Joel (Lisa) and Deborah (Bobby), as well as 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maxine worked side by side with Steve on the family farm in Old Kildonan as both their family and farm grew and blossomed. Whether it was operating farm equipment, tending to gardens, livestock or harvests, Maxine more than carried her share of the farm workload while raising and tending to a family of seven children. The table was always full, the meals delicious and the family environment welcoming and cherished by all. The children were always loved and provided for, in large part due to Maxine's talents for creating what was needed from what was at hand without complaint.
In addition to the family and farm workload, Maxine went to work at Macmillan Bloedel and subsequently at Nathan Detroits Deli and the Crown Plaza Hotel where she developed strong and lasting friendships and received awards for her service and commitment.
Maxine loved gardening and always had wonderful flower and vegetable gardens growing on the farm. Her gardens grew and blossomed like her children, thanks to her love, attention and care. Following their years on the farm, Maxine and Steve would joyfully spend long hours in their greenhouse and gardens on Jackman Road in West St. Paul, eager to share their bounty with their children, friends and neighbours. Family meant everything to Maxine and our memories of her love bring comfort and solace during a difficult time.
A private viewing for immediate family members only will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life and interment will follow later this year as time and an easing of restrictions allow.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations, if desired, may be made to Diabetes Canada and/or CancerCare Manitoba in Maxine's name.

Loving and kind in all her ways, Upright and just, to the end of her days.

Sincere and true, in her heart and mind, Beautiful memories she left behind.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Please accept our deepest condolences for your family's loss of Aunty Mickey. May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you. Words cannot even begin to express your sorrow. May your hearts and souls find peace and comfort. Remembering the first time I was introduced to your family. Aunty Mickey and Uncle Steve insisted they would babysit Beau so we could go out with all the cousins on the Disco River Boat. I felt so welcome and loved being a part of your family. Always fond memories. Hugs Robin & Brent - Posted by: Brent & Robin Johnson (Nephew) on: Dec 15, 2020

  • Sincere condolences to the family at this time. I grew up with Debbie and hung out at their West St Paul home in our Jr and Sr High School years. Debbie's mom was like a second mom to me and you could always find her working out in their yard and garden. She was always very generous and kind to me. Know that your mom and dad have found each other again and will continue to work in their garden of life alongside each other always. Take care and keep your memories close. - Posted by: Terry Loganberg (Friend of the family ) on: Dec 14, 2020
