KENNA LYNNE TAYLOR
(nee RITZER)
January 19, 1962 - December 8, 2020

We are sad to announce that Kenna Lynne Taylor has passed away at the age of 58.
Kenna will be missed by her sons, Ken (Aricelle) Taylor and Bryce (Kaitlynn) Taylor; and her grandsons, Quinton and Easton.
She will be lovingly remembered by her father Ken Ritzer; her sister Candee (Jim) deGraff; and nephews, Adam and Andrew.
She will be forever in the hearts of her best friends, Wendy Frejuk (who lovingly helped care for Kenna these last ten years) and Sylvia Koczerzuk. She was predeceased by her mother, June Ritzer, in 2019.
Kenna grew up in Transcona and attended Westview, John Gunn and T.C.I. schools. She was a great competitive speed swimmer and won many awards during her youth. She was a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the City of Winnipeg for many years. After getting married to an RCMP officer she moved to various cities in B.C. This is where her sons were born. Kenna loved being a stay at home mom and spent a lot of time with her boys. She especially loved the summer when she would take them to Shebandowan Lake near Thunder Bay. This is where her childhood family cottage was and she loved swimming and boating with the family.
Sadly, Kenna's life changed in 2002 when she was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour. She fought bravely but in the end she was left with many health complications from all the chemo and radiation.
Thank you to Devonshire House II, Poseidon Nursing Home and River East Personal Care Home where she has lived these last five years.
As per her request, no service is planned.

Now you can walk and dance again!
Love you forever!

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Kenna in the 80s as one of my wife's two best friends. She was a wonderful person and a great addition to our gatherings and outings to the lively Winnipeg dance club scene at the time. My wife stayed close to Kenna through our various postings throughout Canada and among our fondest memories was a "girl's trip" to Toronto and Ontario Cottage Country where they took in a play and communed with nature in a lovely resort. The photograph of the three of them at supper at the Inn sits proudly on my wife's dresser and the love and happiness those wonderful women shared was truly "priceless". Sadly, Kenna fell ill and the illness ravaged her body. I prefer to remember the vibrant Kenna and will forever keep a smile for her when I see that photo. Rest now my friend for your race is run and you have certainly won! - Posted by: Andrew Koczerzuk (Friend) on: Mar 30, 2021

  • Our mom's were best friends, growing up in Thunder Bay. "Aunt" June, "Uncle" Ken, Candee and Kenna were part of our family too. We have many wonderful memories with Kenna and the whole family from Grandma, Grandpa & Bubba Ferguson, Shebandowan "the Lake", and visits to 23 Cloverdale Cres. with the Siamese cats. At the Lake, I remember Kenna as very happy tyke and jumping in her "jolly jumper", later playing cards, fishing and of course, swimming. I know firsthand that Uncle Ken (and Aunt June) were grateful that Candee flew to BC to support her and help with the young boys, Rob. (As did Kenna) I recall Aunt June praising Candee & Jim's special support navigating health, moves, and various personal matters. My heart goes out to Uncle Ken, Candee, Kenna's boys. May the joy of her life be remembered and celebrated. With love and affection, Maureen (and The McCabe's) P.S. Kenna made the "best shortbread" ever. I'll always remember how she made some for my 40th. - Posted by: Maureen McCabe (Family Friend... from Thunder Bay) on: Jan 14, 2021

  • Being able to call Kenna a close friend was such a blessing, she was the most amazing woman I know. She kept a smile on her face no matter what life threw at her, and I always felt better after having seen her. May she Rest In Peace and know how much she was loved. You will be missed Kenna xo. - Posted by: Diane Campbell (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2020

  • Kenna was the cute little blond haired girl that lived across the back lane. We kids all played outside together in the neighborhood. We went to school together from grade 2- 12. Although we hadn't had a relationship as adults my memories of her and our special neighborhood will remain. - Posted by: Greg Usenko (Friend, class mate and neighbor. ) on: Dec 12, 2020
