GENESSA CANDACE GEVERS
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her grandmother, Eudora Espeut; mother, Carol Gevers; father, Boyd Gevers; sisters, Genelle Gevers and Geneva Gevers; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
She will also be dearly missed by her friends at Esquimalt High School, Spectrum Community School, Reynolds Secondary School and Artemis Secondary Place School.
She was predeceased by her grandfather, Gilbert Espeut.
Genessa was born on July 1, 2004, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She moved to Victoria, British Columbia, in November 2006 with her Dad to join her Mom and sisters who had moved a few months earlier. As a young girl she loved playing with animals, cats and dogs and loved going to the duck pond. As soon as she could read and write, you'd usually see Genessa drawing or writing. She was passionate about that, publishing her first book in elementary school and having a piece of her art hung in an Emily Carr art gallery in Vancouver in 2015. She was a powerful supporter of what she believed in and took the time to research and learn about things that were important to her. She was interested in many things, but especially loved dancing, video games, skateboarding, reading and social justice causes. She was a fierce supporter of her friends and would do whatever she felt was right to protect them. Throughout Genessa's life, she suffered from a decline in mental health. It was difficult to watch her battle her demons, while her family, friends and mental health professionals rallied around her. Genessa worked hard to make things better for herself, but she was also very hard on herself and unfortunately she lost her battle.
Memorial donations may be made in Genessa's name to The Dandelion Society, P.O. Box 8648, 708 Yates Street, Victoria, B.C. V8W 3S2.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at First Memorial Funeral Services and Pashta Marymoon for their care and compassion.

Carol I hope you remember me when we worked together at ACU in Human Resources. I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter, such a very difficult time for you and your family. Sounds like your daughter was just as creative as you and no doubt you were very proud of her. My heart breaks for you and can’t imagine what pain you have now. However, you must remember her and she will always remain in your heart forever. My sincere condolences.
