JAKE REMPEL
Jake Rempel, aged 84 years of Winnipeg, formerly of Blumenort, Manitoba and Blumenort, Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Donwood Manor.
Jake was born on August 22, 1936, in Blumenort, Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. Upon confession of his faith, Jake was baptized in May of 1959. He married Katharina (Tina) Wiebe on September 13, 1959. Jake and his young family moved from Mexico to the Rainy River area in Ontario, Canada. After living there for a brief time, they moved to the Gretna, Manitoba area in 1967. Jake and Tina raised their family on a hobby farm in Blumenort. Jake had a long career at Friesens Corporation in Altona, running a printing press. He enjoyed raising and butchering animals, carpentry projects of various kinds, going on long hikes and playing yard games. His countless hours of volunteering in organizations such as Open Circle, St. Amant Centre, and Forward House Ministries were appreciated by many people and was recognized for his efforts by being named "Altona Citizen of the Year".
He is survived by his children, Anne (Eddie) Berger, Agatha Shantz, Tina Hildebrant, Sara Rempel and David (Erica) Rempel as well as 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three brothers (Wilhelm, Peter and Henry). He was predeceased by his wife Tina in 1988 and 14 siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Donwood Manor for the care given to dad. Thanks also to Klassen Funeral Home for helping with arrangements.
