JOAN MYRTIE PILKEY
May 14, 1926 December 9, 2020
Joan was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2006 and by her partner Jack Langtry, in March of this year.
Left to cherish her memory are son Jon; daughter Sharon (Vlastimil); grandchildren, Matthew, Dana (Stacy) and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Emma, Nathan, Quinn, and Sage.
Apart from a few years early in her marriage, Joan lived her entire life in the Riverview district of Winnipeg. She grew up on Maplewood Avenue and for the past 65 years, called Churchill Drive home. It was a community that offered friendship in its deepest meaning. Jon and Sharon wish to thank her close neighbours and friends for a lifetime of cherished memories and Joan's immediate neighbours who provided love, support and much happiness in her final years.
Joan's greatest joy were her family and her friends. Every new acquaintance brought forth the possibility of a new relationship. Her positive outlook on life and her personal connection to others allowed her to grieve loss, to cherish memories, and to face each new day with renewed appreciation.
Hers was a life well lived in every sense of the word and we are grateful and proud to have shared so much of that love and that journey with her.
"When a parent dies, a planet disappears, and the night sky will never look the same again. It doesn't matter how grown up we are when we lose one." Ann-Marie MacDonald
Joan's family will honour her request that there be no virtual funeral or memorial service, given the dire circumstances so many of our fellow citizens are facing at this time in history, due to the pandemic.
If you desire to contribute in memory of Joan, please do so to the charity of your choice. There is no doubt so many of them are most worthy.

We saw Joan & Jack in the summer of 2018. She was healthy & spry at that time. She definitely was one of a kind! We were surprised to hear of their passing. Our sincere condolences, Murray & Del - Posted by: Murray & Dorothy Clark (Niece) on: Dec 22, 2020
Joan was my mother’s best friend for many years. She was a wonderful person, always so thoughtful and kind. I always looked forward to connecting with her when I was in Winnipeg. It was so lovely to see her in February at my Mom’s 100th birthday. I am so sorry for your loss, she will be greatly missed. Best wishes from Marilyn and Frank Kwan - Posted by: Marilyn Kwan (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2020
Both Sue, Allison and I are very sorry to hear that Joan passed. She and Gordon as well as Jack were great friends of my parents Kay and Harold. She always was there for my Mom after Dad passed away. She and Matthew always looked after our daughter Allison when she came to visit Winnipeg. We were very pleased that Joan and Jon were able to come to my Mom’s 100th birthday in February. Joan will be missed. - Posted by: Jim Godey (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2020
