KIRK MERLEVEDE
July 8, 1950 - December 7, 2020

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kirk Jerome Merlevede. He was a loving and devoted father, doting grandfather, and wonderful brother and friend. Kirk left us suddenly on Monday, December 7, 2020, in Victoria, BC, where he'd resided in recent years to enjoy life on the coast and be near family. Kirk was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB.
His memory will be cherished by children, James (Minji) and Heather (Ryan); grandchildren, Benny and Hana; brother Robert, as well as many more dear family and friends.
We cannot begin to express how devastated we are to lose this wonderful and loving man, who gave himself selflessly and often to others. Kirk lived and approached life in his own insightful, intellectual, and independent manner. This is truly a loss felt by many.
In keeping with Kirk's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A private family Celebration of Life will occur in Victoria, BC, where he enjoyed his recent years, when it is safe to do so.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to have discovered this so late. COVID getting in the way of everything. As Rob’s good friend over many years in Winnipeg, I had gotten to know Kirk, and his father Gus fairly well. I thought the world of Gus, and Kirk was very very much like his father. Soft spoken, intelligent, kind and always incredibly helpful and generous. I valued his advice and adored his great sense of humour. He was occasionally referred to as Mountain Man by Rob because of his tall stature and I always kinda looked up to him as a big brother growing up in Winnipeg from a broken family. Rest well Kirk. You will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Matt (Family friend) on: Feb 22, 2021

  • Dear Rob, Heather and James So sorry for your loss. Although we did not have a chance to visit often, I always enjoyed conversations with Kirk during those times, especially in Nova Scotia, when it was great to see him so happy as a father. I hope the memories you created as a family will be of some comfort now and always. Diane - Posted by: Diane Merlevede (Cousin) on: Dec 21, 2020
