EDWIN (TED) VINCENT FAULKNER
February 6, 1927 - December 15, 2020
Left to cherish Dad's memory are the twins, Mike and Patty, Dave (Jenny) and George Doyle; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Paul), Debbie (Bill), Max (Kaitlyn) and Sam; and great-grandchildren, Jake, Sam and Sophie. Dad has left us to be reunited with cherished family members and friends; his parents, William and Mary; and brothers, Norman (Lally) and Stan (Lee).
Ted was born at Deer Lodge Hospital and raised in Charleswood. His class of 1945 was the first graduating class to graduate grade 11 from Chapman High School He attended Gordon Bell for grade 12. In 1993, Dad attended his 80 year Chapman High School reunion.
Ted was a Junior hockey player played for the Winnipeg Canadians. He was picked up by the Baltimore Clippers then moving on to play for the Toledo Mercurys, Louisville Blades, Akron Americans and Fort Frances Canadians. Ted scored a hat trick in one game and was given an engraved silver hat which his son Mike proudly wears. Dad would say he was "paid weekly...very weakly" as a hockey player.
Coming back to Winnipeg, Dad worked at CPR as a mail clerk travelling all across Canada. He was then relocated with CPR to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, where his son Dave was born. We lived across the street from the rink where Dad played for the Shaunavon Blades. Returning to Winnipeg, we resided in Charleswood. Ted was very active at Roblin Park Community Club. Using his hockey skills, he coached hockey and helped out wherever needed, spending many late nights flooding the rinks. The best ice in Winnipeg was made by Dad and the other fathers who volunteered their time. The years Dad spent at Roblin Park, Dad said" those were the best years of my life."
In the 60s Dad worked for Air Canada in Winnipeg, until his department was moved to Dorval, Quebec in the early 70s. Dad travelled to Nottingham England, birthplace of his father, and enjoyed many winter vacations in Barbados at The Magic Isle. Dad was there so many times he is on a brochure for the Magic Isle. He enjoyed his early morning walks having a cigar and enjoying the pool at his apartment. Dad would fill the room with laughter with all the jokes he told.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Ted's name to Manitoba Blind Sports Association, 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6.
In accordance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Dad you were One Special Guy!
You will be sadly missed
and always remembered.
See you later, alligator.

Sorry to hear of Ted's passing, but happy to know he lived a long life. I worked with Ted in Dorval. When my Mother wanted to move from Montreal to Belleville, Ontario in 1975 I was under age to drive the rental truck. Ted offered to help move her and drive both ways. Who says only the good die young? P.S. Last time I saw Ted was at the Magic Isle the early 90s. - Posted by: Peter Henderson (Co-worker and friend) on: Dec 24, 2020

Condolences to Mike, Patty, and Dave I hold fond memories of your dad on cold winter nights at Roblin Park flying around the ice with a smile on his face. Of course no toque, no winter coat, just his flattop haircut and his Air Canada windbreaker. - Posted by: Ron Dawson (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2020

When I was in grade five at Beaumont School, Joe Knight showed up after lunch one day with a little guy called Michael. During the next few years, I got to know him and Dave and Patti (slightly) as members of the Faulkner family. I did a bit of work for Charleswood Building Supplies and spent time with their wonderful father, Ted. Every kid who knew him seemed to like him and they could call him by his first name. He was a star of kindness in Charleswood. I hope all of Ted’s family and friends are comforted by their many happy memories at this difficult time. R.I.P.;it was an honour to know you, Ted. - Posted by: Bill Stevens (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2020

We got to know Ted on a Barbados vacation at the Magic Isle. He was a caring man with a great zest for life, always funny, kind and considerate, a pleasure to be around. If only we could turn the clock back and have one more poolside conversation with him! Well never forget him. - Posted by: Ruby and Julie McCormick (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2020

To Patty, Mike & Dave, I’m so sorry to hear of your dads passing. He was absolutely correct in saying the Roblin Park rink and centre were the best years in Charleswood. It’s people like your dad that gave children the gift of skating. May others remember the standard your dad set for laughter and good fun. You are in my prayers.
