RITA LAPLANTE
(RACETTE)
Rita will always be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons, Brian, Howard, and Leonard; her daughter and best friend Laura; as well as her grandchildren, Kelly Dowling (Terry), Dawn Morris, her "buddy" Jeff LaPlante, Sean LaPlante (Marcie), and Samantha Kouk (Ryan); and her great- grandchildren.
Rita was predeceased by her adored husband Fred LaPlante in 1997, as well as by her parents (Robert and Anne), her brothers, Wilfrid, Louis, Bob and Ed, and her sister Blanche.
Rita and Fred lived most of their lives together with their family in Winnipeg with a short residency in North Surrey. They were often teased about being "professional movers" as they relocated often within Winnipeg. The most memorable home was on Valour Road, where family gathered for celebrations and Sunday dinners. No matter where they lived, the door was always open with the teapot full and warm galette or beignets to share. In 2019, Rita moved to Oakview Place, which she referred to as "where she lived, but was not her home." She missed being home. When family could not be with her, she enjoyed the company of her roommate Darlene, who watched over her. A special thank you to Darlene Hoffman and to her caregivers on 3North at Oakview Place.
Rita enjoyed watching Winnipeg Jets games (especially when Fred was the goal judge); baseball games; going to the lake; cuddling with family pets; listening to music; sharing stories; playing bingo; and sampling baked treats (just "a little piece"). She was a collector of dinner serviettes and would take one from each family gathering to add to her collector's album. Rita was a wonderful combination of warmth and kindness, tenderness and gentleness, laughter and love.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time due to pandemic restrictions. Until we can gather, share a favourite memory of Rita to warm your heart. Her ashes will be buried beside her dear Fred. Mom/Grandma ...Your memory to us is a keepsake with which we will never part. Though God has you in His keeping, we will always have you in our hearts.

I remember Rita welcoming me into their home. I remember her tea being so strong one could put a spoon in it and it might stand. I remember her kindness to my parents. I also remember those rumolie game nights. - Posted by: Eleanor Rogalsky (Ex daughter in law) on: Dec 24, 2020
