SIMONE BLANCHE RIVARD
(née PINETTE)
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Paul and five children, Leonard (Linda) and Ronald (Lilliane), both from Winnipeg, Diane Scott (Joe) of Chatham, New Hampshire, Rosanne Holland (David) of Calgary and Bruno from Kitchener. Simone was very proud of her children, as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born in Sainte Rose du Lac, Manitoba, the youngest of 12 children. She trained as a nurse and it was there that she met and fell in love with Paul, her husband of 73 wonderful years. Once in Winnipeg, Simone worked in the maternity ward at Saint Boniface Hospital, as well as in the Personal Care Home at Taché Centre, all while raising her children.
Simone was a very competitive curler, winning the Manitoba Women's Curling Championship in 1977, followed by several Senior Women's Manitoba Curling Championships. She was also an avid golfer for many years, just like her husband Paul and they enjoyed many trips during retirement with friends in Hawaii, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Her family nonetheless always remained uppermost in her mind and closest to her heart, which she demonstrated admirably on many occasions over the years through her actions.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff at Actionmarguerite for the compassionate care provided during the final leg of her life's journey.
In keeping with her wishes, a brief service for the immediate family will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020,
that will be streamed at www.livememorialservices.com/Home/

I have many fond memories of spending time with Aunty Simone, Uncle Paul and their children (my cousins). Playing British bulldog for hours outside their home and the wonderful time I spent at their cottage on the lake...horseback riding and the fab bonfires. That was an amazing and unique treat for me made possible by Aunty Simone and Uncle Paul. Reading Aunty Simone's obituary leaves me in awe of her ability to find balance while raising a large family, working at her chosen profession and yet still be able to pursue hobbies. Aunty Simone, like my Mother Juliette Champion nee Rivard, were women who had a foot in each camp during a change in our culture. They really were bringing home the bacon, frying it up and sharing it too. My deepest condolences to Uncle Pau, Rosanne, Diane, Len, Ron & Bruno.
