NANCY E. GRAHAME
1928 - 2020

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy E. Grahame (nee Sedleski) on December 11, 2020 at the age of 92.
Nancy was born in Komarno, Manitoba on April 25, 1928 and was the eldest of five children. She was predeceased by George, husband and soulmate of 59 years; father Michael and mother Nettie; brothers, Eddy and Norman and sister Betty.
Nancy will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Bonnie), Shelley (George) and Darrell. Also left to mourn is Nancy's brother Ernie Sedleski (Mona).
Nancy was an active and loving person her entire life. She began working at age 14 at her uncle Bill's restaurant in Winnipeg during summer breaks. She would often work more than one job in her teens, to ensure she was outfitted in the latest fashions. Nancy began working at Eaton's mail order in 1947 and attended Success Business College. Around this time, she met her future husband and soulmate George. In the 1950s she also worked summers at the old CNR Hotel at Grand Beach and did so up until the month prior to the birth of her first child. This being a testament to mom's inner strength and tenacity that was evident throughout her life.
Nancy made sure her children had the opportunity to be involved in sports, music lessons and community organizations such as Cub Scouts and Girl Guides. Mom took pride in ensuring that we were dressed sharply and looked our best. Nancy loved music and would take the lead in singing Ukrainian songs at the family farm during Christmas, Easter and other family celebrations. She was a natural when it came to speaking at family events and other functions. Nancy continued her career at Eaton's as assistant manager of the book department from 1970 until her retirement in 1993. For many years, she was a member and treasurer of the Roc-Lin bowling league at Rossmere Lanes. She was a member and past president of the East Kildonan Lioness Club and an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Nine Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
Mom was loved by everyone who knew her and was a special part of social functions with all of our friends growing up. Mom and Dad loved entertaining friends and family at their Grand Beach cottage. They also loved to travel and enjoyed visiting many locations throughout Canada, the USA, Mexico and Europe.
We want to extend a special thanks to Lori and all of the palliative care staff, Dr. Robert Johnson and Father Greg of St. Alphonsus Church who always made himself available to visit Mom and with whom she had a special relationship.
Nancy's funeral service will be live streamed on Tuesday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. (Google St. Alphonsus Church Facebook Winnipeg and look for the livestream link on the Facebook page).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

  • Terry has known Nancy since first meeting Ken in high school. From the first time he was introduced to her, he found her warm and friendly and down to earth. Like a typical mom she had eyes in the back of her head and knew just what you were getting up to. Terry and wife Wilsie moved away from Winnipeg many years ago but when we did visit Ken's home we always had a warm welcome from George and Nancy. They're the best and we miss both of them. Condolences Ken and your siblings. Terry and Wilsie Beeler - Posted by: Terry and Wilsie Beeler (friends of Ken) on: Dec 22, 2020

  • I am so sorry for your loss I am comforted to know that you were able to be with her . From the time that we were kids ya 50 years or so ago it was always the same knock on the door and Nancy would call out comon in then because you were never ready I would get a big Nancy smile and a comon up she would always be cooking something so she would sit you down and have plate of something in front of you and no she didn't ask if you wanted if your in her kitchen you are going to eat as were got older not much changed we would have to wait longer for someone to get ready but a big Nancy smile and the comon up was the same she was still cooking something but George would always be serving up a beverage before Nancy could get a plate on the table whether at simpson ,the lake or at the farm it was always the same I was treated like family. I remember the day I stopped by with my first child only a few months old Nancy took her in her arms and with the biggest smile ever she told me I would not be getting her back ya I felt like family some of my best memories are with your family Darrell, Shelly, Kenny, many cousins and uncles . My thoughts are with all of you. - Posted by: Norm bell (family friend) on: Dec 20, 2020
