BARTON JOSEPH ROSSEN
December 30, 1937 - December 9, 2020
Barton is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sandra; loving Dad of Arnold (Beth), Linda (Robert Burg), and Michael (Michelle); and cherished grandfather of his seven grandchildren, Mira, Gerald, Ethan, Lisa, Sarah, Benjamin and Susannah.
He was predeceased by his parents, Allyn and Doris Rossen, and his younger sister Nancy. He was born, raised, and spent most of his life in Winnipeg. Barton attended Kelvin High School with a passion for math and science. He graduated from Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba and also received an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
Barton spent more than 50 years of his life as a Professional Engineer with the goal of helping others. He was well respected in his field and was engaged in many complicated civil engineering projects including designing efficient industrial plants, commercial buildings, and healthcare facilities. Barton was selfless and spent time mentoring younger people working in this field. He was self-employed and besides running successful businesses in the lumber and steel industries, he ran his own consulting engineering and project management firm. He was the Head of the Consulting Engineers of Manitoba, and an active member of Toastmasters and the Winnipeg Rotary Club. He always made time for others and stressed ethics and hard work. Barton took pride in his work helping the Indigenous people in Manitoba on special projects and worked tirelessly helping his clients. His core values included pursuing the things you love, holding yourself accountable, perseverance, and always being ethical and true to yourself. These are the values that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Barton had a wonderful sense of humour and a gift for making everyone feel important.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for him as well as Rabbi Leibl and Bill Weissmann of Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Donations to honour Barton's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
His loving nature and memory will be our family's eternal light.

I first met Barton at Western (Ivey) in 1960. We all took our classes together and there was a bonding within the class as we spent so much time together. Subsequently we renewed our friendship when I was posted to Winnipeg for several years. While this relationship was limited I was always impressed by the positive aspects of Barton’s character as mentioned in his obituary. My condolences to Sandra who l remember as a lovely lady. - Posted by: Peter Reid (MBA Classmate) on: Mar 06, 2021

I met Mr Rosen back in the early ‘80’s on an Office Overload assignment. I had never had an employer treat me with the respect Mr Rosen did. I only worked for about 6 weeks for him then but about a year later he called to see if I would come back. I had a Permanent job then but agreed to help him out on the weekends, if that would work. I did that for about 2 years until a big project was complete that he was working on. I have never forgotten his respect that he showed me all those years ago. A truly remarkable gentleman has passed on. My most sincere sympathy to you all. - Posted by: Barbara Larkin (Employee) on: Dec 26, 2020
