July 19,1945 - December 15, 2020
With tremendous heaviness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Janice Marie Jonatschick, on December 15, 2020 at the age of 75 years. Janice fought long and hard with immense strength, against Pulmonary Fibrosis, and following a last beautiful day with her family by her side, took her final breath as she slept.
Janice is survived by her loving husband Don, and her three children, Dawn (Darrin), Guy (Nancy), and Marnie; grandchildren, Vanessa, Kylin, Pasel, and Ryan; her sisters, Johanna and Barbara; adopted daughter Lee; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Ylenia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janice was predeceased, and now reunited, with her mother, Lucille; father, Edmund; her two brothers, Ron and Jeffrey; her sister Susan; and her infant son, Cory.
Janice was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she attended Lord Selkirk Elementary, and Elmwood High. In 1964, she met Donny and married him in 1967.
Always wishing to further her education and skill set, Janice attended Red River Community College and specialized in office administration. While raising a family and later on, she managed to work at Safeway, various government offices, River East School Division (as a school bus driver), the City of Winnipeg, and as a driver for Child and Family Services.
Janice was adventurous and lived life to the fullest. She loved riding roller coasters, white water rafting, swimming, watching movie marathons, reading good books, golfing, camping, playing bingo, sewing, shopping (purses were her vice!), cooking, and holding big fabulous parties for family and friends.
She especially loved to travel. In her lifetime, she travelled throughout the USA, the Caribbean, Bali, Kenya, Greece, Turkey, Israel, and China.
In the summer of 1987, Janice had her movie moment in the IMAX documentary about Manitoba called Heart Land. Look for her smiling at the camera next to the sand castles on Grand Beach.
The Jonatschick family wishes to thank the many people who cared for Janice during her illness, especially Lori Penner and the home care team, Kelly from Meals on Wheels, and the Palliative Care team of St. Boniface Hospital.
As per her wishes, and due to COVID restrictions, a funeral will not be scheduled. When the current environment improves, hopefully springtime, a party will be held in her memory.
Mom, we were not ready to lose you, but we understand that you had to go. No longer do you suffer. You are free to dance and eat all the ice cream you want. We will never be able to put into words how much we all love you and will miss you. We will meet again and until then... a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.

I am so sorry for your loss Marnie, Guy and Dawn. Your mom was always kind and full of love. She always treated me so nice. She would also make me certain foods as I was such a picky eater- she would go out of her way to make something amazing for me. Christmas at you house was the BEST- because of your amazing Mom and Dad. Our condolences from Texas Jim, Annette and young Jim - Posted by: Jim Jonatchick (Nephew) on: Jan 01, 2021

Janice was a lovely person with a beautiful smile and a kind heart as expressed in her children. The wonderful tribute certainly illustrated Janice's passion for adventure and fun. We last saw Janice at the EHS 60th Celebration and enjoyed visiting with her and the family. Her strength and grace were amazing! Janice's spirit and love will live on as will the treausred memories. Janice and I used to work together in Risk Management at the City of Winnipeg. After her retirement we would still get together for a lunch here and there and some shopping. Janice and I attended a weekend of "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" twice. She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed life! My deepest sympathies to Don and the family. - Posted by: Dana Ewonchuk (Friend) on: Dec 26, 2020

I was heartbroken to hear of my cousin Janice's passing. Although we were a few years apart she was like another sister. I babysat Dawn and Guy and Marnie when they lived on Herbert and when I did she always included me in some BBQ's before I went home or even a camping trip to the states. She fought hard with Grace and dignity and never gave up. I will miss her. - Posted by: Debbie Scott (Cousin) on: Dec 26, 2020

Dawn and I met in kindergarten and have been friend ever since. Mrs. J has always been so good and kind to me even when I a was misbehaving. And as I got older they always welcomed me and included me in dinners and such at their home on PFR. Even a surprise baby shower! I was so touched. She will be missed and thought about lovingly for the rest of my life. My deepest sympathies to Mr. J, Dawn, Guy and Marnie and all her family. My hearts breaks for you. Love you.
