EVELYN AIKMAN (GRINKE)

Evelyn was born at home on December 25, 1929, in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon M. Aikman; as well as seven siblings; several family members and close friends. Evelyn is survived by her children, Bev (Jim) and Gord (Maggie); grandchildren, Courtney (Everett), Trevor (Marieke), Jamison and Keith; great-grandchildren Poppy and Millie; her sister Joan (Gerald); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was the second youngest of nine and often shared many fond memories of growing up in a large family during the depression. After graduating from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, Evelyn married the love of her life, Gord. She worked at Hudson Bay House, business side, until their first child was born. Later in life Evelyn worked in a neighbourhood clothing store and then full time for Canada Post in Coding and Mech until retiring at age 65.
Mom was very dedicated to and proud of her family, supporting of all of our endeavours. Above all, Mom wanted everyone to be happy and safe and did not ask for anything in return. She was the queen of bartering to get the best deal and even though nicknamed "Honey" she had a knack for wearing down any salesperson. Mom and Dad enjoyed bus trips to Shooting Star Casino, cruises, as well as annual trips to Grand Forks with the Aikman clan. Mom loved spending time in person or by phone with family and lifelong friends. She also looked forward to get togethers with the Crofton Bay neighbours and her JUGS (Just Us Girls) group over the years.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us in keeping Mom safe and cared for over the past few years including staff at: WRHA Homecare, Riverwood Harmony Court and Poseidon Care Home.
We love and miss you Mom/Granny/Great-Granny. Even though you held Holopchi Making 101 with us, ours will never be as good as yours. We take comfort in knowing that Dad was waiting to pipe you home.
