DIANA JOYCE NOWICKI
(nee PORUBANEC)
Diana was predeceased by her husband Ted (2017), of nearly 62 years, her children, Robert (1960) and Ronald (1968), mother Teenie (1977), father Ignace (1971), and brothers, Lionel (2001) and Malcolm (1994). She leaves to mourn her two sons, Douglas and Gary, and her four granddaughters, Marisa, Kyra, Ana and Kyla.
Diana was born and raised in Winnipeg on January 3, 1934. She attended Gordon Bell School and later graduated from the Manitoba Technical Institute in 1952 before her employment at Sidney I. Robinson. In Mom's early years she was a champion 5-pin bowler, and enjoyed helping her parents with the day to day operations of the family rooming house. Diana met the love of her life, Ted Nowicki, in the early 1950s, and they married on September 10, 1955. After becoming a mother in 1958, Mom stayed home to care for her family. Mom met and maintained many friendships over the years, closest of all was her high school friend Mary Polonuk. Mom also maintained a special bond with her niece Linda Bakensztos (Porubanec). Most important to Mom was her love and commitment to her family. Mom loved to cook and bake, and often experimented with recipes (to Dad's happiness). Mom was probably best known for her chili, which was always a favourite for family and friends. Mom always supported and encouraged us with our sporting activities. She made sure our uniforms were clean and our bellies were well nourished. Sunday dinner was Mom's special time to feed the growing family in the later years. She never disappointed. After Dad retired, Mom took on part-time work to keep active, but mostly to shop at downtown Eaton's looking for bargains. Mom's proudest moments came through Doug and Gary's achievements, but nothing could top her love for her four granddaughters.
Our family would like to thank the staff and residents at Catherine Place who were so compassionate to Mom during her time there.
As per Mom's wishes, a private family service will be held. Mom will be placed alongside Dad, and their faithful pets, Buffy and Coco, in their niche at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you support a charity close to your heart.
