VALERIE (VALDINA) ST. GERMAIN
November 11, 1941 - December 27, 2020
Valerie is predeceased by her daughter Melody Breau; her brothers, Jesse and Brian (Darlene) and her parents, Simon and Hilda St. Germain.
She leaves to mourn her beloved son Chet Breau (Teresa); her sister Judie (Bob) and her brother Ray (Glory); along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom miss her dearly. For months she patiently waited for COVID restrictions to be lifted so we could visit her again, but a massive outbreak in her home took her away before that could happen. It is a devastating loss, and one which we hope no other families have to endure.
Many thanks to the staff at Convalescent Home of Winnipeg with whom Val spent the last several years, and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital who did what they could to save her.
The memorial service to celebrate Val's life will be Saturday, January 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed via Bardal Funeral Home. Condolences: www.bardal.ca. No flowers please.

I am a third cousin to Val on her mother's side from St.Vital, Winnipeg. With growing up and going to lots of house parties at the Abbottsford home in south St.Vital Val was like the Marilyn Monroe of our family. Beautiful and classy and always looked forward to spending some time with her. Soft spoken and kind she was a beauty. I loved Aunty Hilda, her mom and they were the nicest people making you feel at home with the fiddlin' and good times spent there. Not to mention the wild times!! Those were fun, too. I am about 11 years younger than Val so this was so long ago. Didn't see Val much after she met Lenny but she did bring him over to our place on Berrydale to show him off as he sat on a stool in our kitchen playing guitar what he was born to do. Our cousin Carol (Tucker) Mistlebacher was Val's maid of honor and thrilled to be so. I was Carol's flower girl at age 8 and remember Lenny and Ray playing during intermission to keep up with entertainment at Johnny and Carol's wedding. Good times! Val and Aunty Hilda would come over to Berrydale to visit us sometimes but after I moved away to BC at age 19 we lost contact. I would hear through my immediate family of the goings on here and there. I will always treasure our times back in old St.Vital. My condolences and love go out to the family (my extended family). It was the late 80s when Chizuko and I first met Valerie, Chet and Melody. They were a very dynamic and friendly family and it was always fun to be around them. At that time, Chizuko was active in a Japanese karaoke group that met on Friday nights. The decision was made for some of them, including Chizuko, to sing at Folklorama’s Japan pavilion. Chizuko was to wear a traditional kimono and she had brought several with her from Japan. The problem was “What could she do about her hair?” Fortunately, Valerie came to the rescue and with her hairdressing wizardry and artistic flair did a fabulous job harmonizing the overall look with which Chizuko was delighted. Valerie was such a kind and giving person and we miss her very much. We think of Val each day and feel connected to her through our prayers, knowing that brilliant flame of her essential nature will carry on forever, bringing joy to others. Very sad to read of Val's passing. I met Val when she owned her hair salon in Osborne. It was a hip place where you could relax and get pampered while Val worked her magic with her scissors. Many wonderful conversations over time about raising children, current events in the province, music, and the future. Always a smile to start and finish the visit. I moved too far away from her salon and in it lost a great hairdresser/stylist, but never forgot her. My sincerest condolences Chet, relatives, and all her friends. She will always be remembered. Rest in peace Val. - Posted by: Rae Jones-Roche (Friend and former Customer) on: Jan 03, 2021

Hi Chet; We met a few times you and I when you visited your Mom and I visited mine at The Convalescent Home. Val and my Mom sat at the same table and ate meals together, before my Mom passed in 2019. Val was one of the few other residents my Mom took to, and we had played a few good games of cards back when my Mom could still see cards to play. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I smile when I think of her. - Posted by: Sharon Lain (Friend) on: Jan 02, 2021

Very sorry to hear about Val's passing. I met and talked to her many times ca. 2000 when I was writing a book about her first husband. She was always kind and generous with her time. She was a warm, straightforward, honest person who said what she felt with great passion and she had a wonderful sense of humour. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Ron Forbes-Roberts (Acquaintance) on: Jan 02, 2021

I was truly saddened when I got the news of Val's passing. She was a very good soul. I got to meet Val in 1994 in Winnipeg while there doing musical research on her late husband Lenny Breau. She was so very generous with her time and memories. I got to know her and her two kids Melody and Chet in those days. Val has now joined Lenny and Melody and Chet is left to grieve. Val was much loved by so many family and friends. May she Rest in Peace - Posted by: Dan Casavant (friend) on: Jan 02, 2021

Hi Chet: I met your mom at the convalescent home two years ago when my mother moved in. Each time I visited with mom I would also have a short visit with your mom. Valerie was a lovely and a kind lady who loved her family very much. She talked about you often and loved when you came to visit. I met you when I was there last March. She will see her daughter now but she will miss her visits with you. I send you prayers for comfort as you mourn your precious mom. - Posted by: Kay Yeo (Acquaintance) on: Jan 02, 2021
