EDITH REMPEL
December 17, 1930 - December 22, 2020
Edith was born to Jacob and Louise Friesen in Grunthal, Manitoba. She grew up with her siblings, Erica, Herta and Jack. Edith met Peter in 1949, they married June 24, 1950. They were married 67 years.
Edith loved to spend time with family; celebrating birthdays and holidays, attending "do s" (parties), camping and playing cards. She and Peter also loved to travel. They went to Palm Springs with family and friends many times. They took road trips across Canada, to Orangeville, Penticton, Newfoundland and Alaska. Edith loved to bake and cook. Wherever she was she prepared delicious meals and took her baking along to share with family and friends.
Edith and Peter built their home in Headingley where they raised their boys, Barry and Kelvin. Edith was a loving mother and dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, petit point, sewing and decorating. Edith and Peter joined the Headingley United Church when they moved to Headingley. Members of the church were like family to Edith and Peter. Edith was known for her ability to organize the Annual Fall Supper at Headingley United Church which she did for many years.
Edith was delighted to become Oma to Craig and Krystin, Kelvin and Sharon's children. Oma was always up for a game of hallway hockey using her wooden spoon as her hockey stick. Yes, the same spoon she used to prepare her fabulous amped up cream of wheat the very next morning! A summertime feast of fritters with chocolate pudding and watermelon was an annual event we looked forward to.
In 1994 Edith and Peter were devastated by the passing of their son Barry. Over the course of Barry's illness Edith and Peter had travelled back and forth to Penticton staying with him, supporting him through the tough times he faced.
Oma welcomed Kelvin's wife, Sharon, Craig's wife, Brianne and great-grandchildren, Cayden, Lillianna and Blaire to the family. The kids will remember Oma taking them for rides on Peter's walker through the hallways of their condo and for icy cold root beer floats on hot summer days.
We would like to thank the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their kindness and excellent care.
A private graveside service will be live-streamed from Chapel Lawn on January 4, 2021.

Dear Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Have many wonderful memories of growing up across the street. Best yard for kick the can. I can remember Mrs. Rempel saying to me when I was older, call us Pete and Edith, never did. Mr. and Mrs. Rempel attended my daughters grad party, way back in 2000, we made a special center piece for their table, an outhouse made of popsicle sticks. Living in Headingley their dining room window looked out straight to our house. Pete said the best thing about moving was that not having to look at that each dinner, seemed a fitting center piece, they loved it , put Clifford's name on it. Thank you Mrs. Rempel for sharing your fritters and watermelon with me and my family, I think of you often. - Posted by: Darlene MacChesney (Friend and long time neighbor. ) on: Jan 02, 2021
