JAMES MICHAEL HUSACK

Shortly before 17:00 on December 22, 2020, Jim passed away comfortably with his daughter, Andrea Husack by his side. We say farewell to a wonderful man and courageous human being. His life was not easy but Jim made the most of it in his own way.
Jim was born January 5, 1952 and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike Husack and Dorothy Husack (Claydon). In his earlier years Jim was in a band called The Id where he was lead vocal and guitar, John Little on bass guitar, Bob Fisher on drums, and Peter Vallentyne on keyboard (Bernie Peterkin on keyboard in later years), with assistance provided by Kent Avery. The Id enjoyed playing at various community centres in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Later Jim obtained his diploma in Engineering Technology from Red River College and worked for Communications Canada in Thompson, Manitoba, Prince George, BC, and Fort St. James, BC. He described situations where he had the pleasure of hanging from helicopters to fix communication towers. Jim married and settled down having one daughter in Prince George. In his earlier years Jim enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar, camping, fishing, chess, board games, photography, gaming, and watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Jim went to Osoyoos on his own to take care of his health in the early 1990s where he met the love of his life, Charlotte. Jim and Charlotte enjoyed playing the guitar together, bird watching, sharing jokes and stories, as well as enjoying gourmet meals in the comfort of their home.
Jim is now reunited with his wife Charlotte. He leaves behind brother Glen Husack and wife Gloria, his daughter Andrea Husack and spouse Trevor Creegan, step-grandchildren, Christine Bowe, Elizabeth Burnett and Christopher Burnett, step-great-grandson Logan Bowe, nieces and nephews, special friends, stellar neighbours, and many cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rainer Ankenbauer, Dr. Robert Penner, Dr. Yves Clouatre, Nurse Kathy Hewitt, Dr. George Halse, IHA staff in Osoyoos, Nelson, and Castlegar, and many caring nurses from Castleview such as Jasmine, Shannon, Laura and Jess.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jim's name can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation https://jdrf.akaraisin.com/ui/donateJDRF/donations/start or Canadian Digestive Health Foundation https://cdhf.ca/donation/ or The Canadian Sepsis Foundation https://canadiansepsisfoundation.ca/Donate
Cremation has taken place at Nunes-Pottinger in Oliver. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Dad, you will forever be in my heart. Below is a song Dad shared with me a few months before his passing; however, he changed a few of the words. The song is called, "And When I Die-Blood, Sweat, & Tears".

  • Hi John, Thank you so much for sharing your stories regarding my Dad! People have been reaching out on Facebook and Nunes-Pottinger to talk about their times with Jim, which I greatly appreciate. Dad kept playing the guitar as long as he could. He played his harmonica - the blues in his later years...... - Posted by: Andrea (Daughter) on: Jan 08, 2021

  • Sad news. I hadn't seen Jim since the mid to latter 1960s when we were both young guitar players from Crescentwood chasing our Beatles dreams. I remember Jim owned a green Martin electric guitar which was very rare in Winnipeg at the time. We jammed a few times with Mark Thiessen and Rex Bartlett but although we didn't form a band together I do remember The Id. I later played with Peter Valentine in Pig Iron. It was always a pleasure whenever I would run into Jim here and there. We lost touch but I never forgot him. "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end." My condolences to his family. - Posted by: John Einarson (Long ago friend) on: Jan 05, 2021
