EVELINA MARIA GAMBOZ
March 17, 1929 - January 5, 2021
She leaves behind to mourn daughter Dina Dzbik, son-in-law Les, beloved granddaughter Katherine, nephew John (Lorna); grandnieces, Julie (Marty) and Katie, and family in Italy, Croatia, and Argentina. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Arturo.
Evelina was born on March 17, 1929 in Buie d'Istria to Angela and Giovanni Gamboz. Sadly, her mother passed away when Evelina was five years old, and her father when she was ten. She was lovingly raised by her grandmother, but she never forgot the pain of being orphaned at such a young age. Evelina and Arturo were friends from childhood. They married in 1951 and daughter Dina was born the following year. They immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959. Evelina was employed at then, Winnipeg General Hospital, now Health Sciences Centre, as a housekeeping aide, then for the last 22 years as an anaesthesia aide in the adult operating room until her retirement.
Evelina loved working in her big Italian garden, cooking, baking, sewing, and knitting. She always kept herself busy taking care of her small family. She and Arturo were Katherine's caregivers from infancy because she did not want Katherine to go to daycare while we were at work. She cherished those years. She was a very friendly, outgoing person who made friends with everyone she met.
After Arturo passed Evelina's health began to decline. She never wanted to move away from her house, dreading the thought of a care home. Thankfully, with the help of family and home care, she was able to remain in her home until the end.
A private family Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church on January 20, 1921 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Live steaming will be available at https://youtu.be/oAzOudnhGgw.

I saw your mother's obituary in the newspaper, and while I have not seen you since we were in grade 10 or 11 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, I thought I would offer you my condolences. My email is marchess@mymts.net if you would like to get in touch. Take care. Gail - Posted by: GAIL MARCHESSAULT (school friend) on: Jan 21, 2021

I've known Evelyn and Arturo all my life and enjoyed many parties at their home on McDermot. I'm not sure why I didn't call her Zia. She always had a smile and a laugh in her heart, and a twinkle in her eye as if she was up to something. I don't ever think I saw her frown. She seemed to be a good friend to you Dina, and she seemed to be very open minded, which was great because times were changing so quickly. I know you will miss her to bits. To our dear friend Dina and family we extend our sincere condolences for the passing of her dear mother Evelina. We will always remember her with lots of affection. She was always so cheerful and loved to joke with us when we called her or met her somewhere. What a lovely person. We will cherish her memories forever. - Posted by: Loredana e Anita (Friends) on: Jan 16, 2021
