JEAN SEONAID KRESKO
(nee CHRISTIE)
September 3, 1928 - December 25, 2020

After a full and beautiful life, it is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing, at the age of 92, of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, neighbour and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband John, parents Isa and David Christie, and brother David Christie. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Greg, Cathy (Greg) Hatch, Paul and Lisa (Colin) Huggins; four grandchildren: Kailey (nee Huggins) (Michael) Lockwood, Blake Huggins, Ainsley Huggins, and Kate Hatch; great-grandson Mack Lockwood; her siblings: Isabel Christie; Shirley Anderson and family; sister-in-law Noreen and family; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Jean was born in Morse Place (Winnipeg). Her Scottish parents Isa and David Christie provided a warm and loving household. Throughout their school years, Jean and her two sisters were known as "the Christie Biscuits" after working together at Liggett's Drugstore. Jean met her husband John Kresko (Transcona) at Club PALAMinaki on her 21st birthday. They married in 1952. Their Helmsdale Avenue residence in East Kildonan (Winnipeg) was filled with happiness where they raised their family. The family home also was a gathering place for many parties and celebrations through the years!
Jean was very creative, with a sharp mind that led to great problem-solving skills. She was a positive thinker, never a complainer, and always saw the silver lining in any situation. She worked in the computer room of the Great-West Life Assurance Company and processed tax forms at Revenue Canada. She enjoyed numerous crafts and was acknowledged with awards for many of her creations: quilting (miniatures were a specialty), sewing, knitting, crocheting, hooked rug making, etc. She was often called upon to construct Halloween costumes and special day dresses. She loved puzzles, card games, bridge group, and home making. The young Kresko family camped across Canada and travelled to the northern U.S. for vacations and square-dancing jamborees, which developed many lifelong friendships. Jean and John enjoyed many years of travelling with friends on trips and cruises to many destinations.
Jean was a member of John Black Memorial United Church and enjoyed many lifelong friendships from the church congregation. She participated in the formation of the John Black Banner group which made quilted banners for church celebrations; many are still in use today. She created many quilts, knit hats, scarfs, and dolls for newborns at the hospital and for various charities throughout the years.
In 2012, River Ridge Retirement Residence became her new home. Her many new friends, especially her table mates were very precious to her. She rekindled her love of knitting, learned to oil paint, and enjoyed the group trips to casinos. In October 2020, she moved to MacTaggart Place in Edmonton to be closer to her daughters and their families.
The most important part of Jean's legacy is her love, support, selflessness, and devotion to her family. We will miss her deeply, but our hearts are full of wonderful memories and gratitude that she is now at peace.
Cremation has already taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held in the fall of 2021 at John Black Memorial United Church (898 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3T4).
Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the church or a charity of your choice.
Memories and condolences may be sent to Greg.Kresko@gmail.com

Always loved, never forgotten,
and forever in our hearts.
