DR. DAVID GORDON HIRSCH WISEMAN
June 18, 1945 - December 21, 2020
He was kind and warm to people he would meet and always showed an interest in other peoples' views, regardless of age. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, uncle and friend. He loved his family unconditionally.
He was predeceased by his father, a Urologist by training, at a young age and his mother, Tamara who lived to the age of 98. She was the principal of Talmud Torah. David was very devoted to his mother who he visited daily, especially when she resided at the Sharon Home.
He loved going out for dinner or lunch with family and friends. At one time, a large group of friends would meet at the Pancake House every Saturday afternoon. It was on these lunch dates that he especially enjoyed all the kibitzing that transpired. He liked to kibitz also with his young cousins, Michael, Rob, and Brent when he was a teenager and they thought of him as a big brother.
David had a wonderful sense of humour, joking around even at the Grace Hospital which surprised the nurses.
He liked nice clothes especially from Korry's in Toronto. He had to make a pilgrimage there whenever he visited Toronto.
Most of all he was an accomplished physician. He specialized in the field of Endocrinology at work. He had an exemplary "bedside manner" making everyone feel comfortable. He joined the Manitoba Clinic in 1975 and worked there for 35 years until his retirement in 2010. He cared for thousands of people with diabetes and thyroid disease. In addition, he carried on a primary care practice where he cared for people with hypertension, heart disease and cancer.
His motto in life was to "take time to smell the roses ".
I would like to thank the doctors who looked after David for many years: Dr. Alvin Schroeder, Dr. Shelton and Dr. Hobson, and the staff on 4 North at Grace Hospital. Also, I would like to thank his caregivers, Lesya, Eugene and Freda. I would also like to thank Rabbi Kliel Rose and my close friends, Irene and David Meyrowitz for their help at this difficult time.
If you desire, the family would appreciate donations to Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice.

Dr. Wiseman was my thyroid doctor almost twenty years ago. My issue has returned and just found out of his passing. He was such a lovely man, so kind. I’m saddened that he left us. He was a great help to me as I know to many many others as well. - Posted by: Dana Pouteau (Patient) on: May 26, 2022

Dr. Wisemen was my doctor for 30 years until he retired. He was always punctual and thorough. I told him he couldn’t retire, which resulted in a chuckle. He was one of the best endocrinologist I’ve had and I thank him for all the care shown to me. My sympathies go out to the family. - Posted by: Werner Koehn (Patient) on: Feb 16, 2021

I have known David for many years and aside from medicine, we golfed together ,skied and had occasional lunches at the Health Science Center. I even bought his old hatchback Gremlin as I needed a good used car once I graduated from medicine. I can attest to his golf notes that he kept in his wallet. Also, if I listened to him, I would of had a few extra dollars in my pocket through his advise on various stocks. On our last golf game together at Tuxedo, we still enjoyed our walk together. He was soft spoken with a gentle demeanor and he will be missed. - Posted by: Ted Banach (friend) on: Jan 11, 2021

I had the honour to be Dr.Wiseman's assistant at the Manitoba Clinic for 15 years. During that time he shared his love of medicine with me. He took the time to teach me the reading of x-rays,the complexities of diabetes, and most internal medicine problems. His sense of humour was boundless. We would discuss all thing related to Seinfeld and could hardly wait until the next episode so we could do skits together. April fools day was always looked forward to with guarded anticipation. Thank you Dr.Wiseman for being a mentor and a friend. I will always hold you dear to my heart. - Posted by: Lucy Dabrowski (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2021

David was a Med School classmate and during our training we were very friendly. Very sad to read of his passing. Although we have not been close since graduation (I left Winnipeg after residency), I always looked forward to renewing our friendship at the class reunions. I was always extremely fond of David. He was very quiet but when one spoke to him it was apparent exceptionally bright and an excellent physician. I was looking forward to seeing him at our most recent class reunion but unfortunately that was cancelled due to COVID. I will certainly miss him and renewing our friendship if/when our reunion is rescheduled. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Arnold Zeal (Med School Classmate) on: Jan 09, 2021

I am so sorry to hear the loss of Dr. Wiseman, a very special beautiful man. I remember him at work as I have been enjoyed at the Manitoba clinic for over three decades myself. I will always remember our shared good mornings and little conversations we had time to share in the cafeteria and deli and through the clinic :) I missed seeing his warm face and charming smile each day after he retired. And looked forward to his visits ever so often after retirement. I enjoyed catching up and delighted in our memorable chats Truly missed and loved is he xoxoxox - Posted by: Karen Evans (Friend ) on: Jan 09, 2021
