LILIAN PALY
(formerly PAXTON) (nee CLARKE)

On December 24, 2020, in Winnipeg, our loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at age 102.
Lilian leaves to mourn her daughter Nancy, her son Joe (Dawn), her grandchildren, Timothy, Courtney, Taylor, Jay and Whitney, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was raised in the Wolseley area and attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell schools. She loved the outdoors and included walking daily in all seasons well into her 90s. She worked at Eaton's and was a champion bowler in their league and enjoyed swimming in Lake Winnipeg and cycling through the beaches every summer. She took an avid interest in the Blue Bomber games and the curling bonspiel championships. She was a member of the Eaton's retirement club and participated in many trips with past coworkers and friends.
She had travel adventures to Barbados, Portugal, Ireland to name a few and of course California and Ontario where she spent Christmases with her children and their families. Mom never considered herself to be an "older person" and always looked on the bright side of life.
We always marvelled at Mom's longevity when we celebrated with a well attended party for her at age 90 and then 100. Many thanks go to special friends, Penny and Terry Webber, nieces, Pat and Shawn, niece and nephew, Drinda and Don, who celebrated Mom's 102nd birthday in October with a window party during COVID times.
Lilian was predeceased by her husband Lyall who passed in 1975, in later years husband Paul, her parents, Jane and Harry Clarke, brothers, Jim, Harry, Bob and Gilbert, and sister Jean.
Mom was proud of her Irish born parents and heritage. What a wonderful legacy she left for us. She will never be forgotten.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
Miss you Mom!

A memorial will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Aunt Lillian always was a joy to be around. We spent many of Christmas days with her growing up. She was always so great with children & could always find the humor in most situations. The best memory I have was when she & uncle Paul took me to see guitarist Liona Boyd in concert. I sat next to Uncle Paul & he tapped his foot with enthusiasm during the whole concert! I could hear this faint noise though & couldn't figure out from where?! It was Aunt Lilian snoring away! I had quite the chuckle & at that moment learned that opposites do attract! We will sure miss our regular visits & phone chats with Aunt Lilian. She was one great Irish lady! - Posted by: Heather MacQuarrie (Great niece through marriage ) on: Jan 11, 2021

  • Auntie Lillian was a favorite among us Kane kids. Whenever we went downtown we would always make a point of going to see Auntie Lillian at Eatons. She was always happy to see you, with big smiles and those sparkling blue eyes. There was always lots of laughter when Lillian came to visit. In the later years Mom and I made a point of going to see Lillian when I went to Winnipeg to visit. Together Lillian and Peggy became young again reliving ther time together at the Clarke's, with the famous prank of Lillian flipping Peggys peanut butter sandwiches into her face when she walked by. Lillian was an inspiration to all of us. Forever loved and missed. - Posted by: Lori Young (Great niece) on: Jan 09, 2021
