MARILYN JOAN PETERSON
1936 - 2021

It is with sadness that the Peterson family announces that Marilyn passed away peacefully Monday evening in Calgary, Alberta after a courageous battle with dementia.
Marilyn is survived by her son Wayne (Nick) from Toronto and two grandchildren, Kristjan (Jessie) in Calgary and Andrew in Prince Edward Island. Marilyn was predeceased by her loving husband Bryan, and their son Neil both from Calgary, and her sister Bernice Cook of Winnipeg. Marilyn is also survived by her brother Roland Del Bigio in Winnipeg. Marilyn's love of friends and family include numerous nephews, nieces and cousins across Canada and the United States.
Marilyn was born in Winnipeg to Harry and Mabel Del Bigio. She spent her summers at the family cottage at Whytewold on Lake Winnipeg with family and friends. Marilyn worked briefly for her father's family business, Del's Distributors, in Winnipeg. She actively raised her family, attended the United Church of Canada, and maintained long relationships with her numerous friends and family. In 1979 she and her husband and one son moved from Winnipeg to Calgary. This renaissance in their life enabled them to garner new friends in the western city. She was very fond of her new association affectionately known as the "girls ie the neighbours. She volunteered with the Calgary Olympics in 1988 travelling across the country with the official mascots. Marilyn was an active volunteer with the Rockyview Hospital for many years.
Marilyn adored her family and friends both in Winnipeg and Calgary. She was very grateful for all of them. Over the last few years a special mention for generous support from her nephew Gary Cook, his wife Margaret and their daughter Allison. In addition to "the girls" thanks to a very dear friend Sheila Priestly. You all meant the world to her and the family too.
The Peterson family wishes to thank the Cedars Villa Long Term Care Home, especially the Maple Unit where she received outstanding care and compassion for many years. We are truly grateful to them and her care givers, thank you.
Cremation has taken place. Following Covid, friends and family will gather to celebrate Marilyn's life at the Eden Brook Funeral Home.
Good bye our dear Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and friend. You will now join your husband, son, parents and family. Although Marilyn was taken by the disease, she was not beaten by it.

We will love you forever.

If desired a donation to the Calgary Alzheimer's Association https://www.alzheimercalgary.ca/
would be appreciated.
