MICHAEL S. LEITCH

Michael passed away on December 17, 2020 following a brave fight with cancer.
He was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis (1994), and his father, Stephen (1983). He had no siblings nor any children. Michael was born in Winnipeg and lived his entire life in Manitoba; expressing no desire to live elsewhere.
His parents impressed upon him the need for a good education. As a result, he acquired three degrees from the University of Manitoba, with his final degree an MBA.
After graduation, he started what would turn out to be a rewarding, lifelong career with the Credit Union Central of Manitoba in marketing. There, he made friends for life with a number of his colleagues whom he kept in touch with after his retirement.
Michael loved dogs, and was particularly fascinated by golden retrievers. He ended up caring for three of these retrievers in succession until incapacitated by the effects of his cancer.
Due to Covid-19 and Michael's final wishes, there will be no formal services. Respecting his wishes, cremation will take place.
Michael commented on the kindness and professionalism of his doctors, nurses and home care workers throughout his ordeal, and so a special thank you is given to them.
For those who knew Michael, and wish to do so, they may make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, or any other charity of their choosing.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Michael was our cousin on the Levesque side of the family. Our dad, Emile, and his mom, Phyllis, were brother and sister. We have many good memories of Michael starting from when he was a young child to later on in life. Among these are biking with him all over St. Vital, going to his house on Moore Street and spending time with him and his parents, Phyllis and Steve, and his little dog, Shep, talking with him at UMSU, seeing and chatting with him in downtown Winnipeg, riding with him in his white Trans Am, spending time talking about everything, hunting with him on many occasions, visiting him at his home in St. Andrews and meeting his Golden Retrievers. Michael was always so happy to meet up with us. He always gave us his undivided attention and made us feel that we were important to him. Our hearts are filled with sympathy. Rest in Peace, Michael. • Michael's Mother and mine were sisters. Michael was a few years younger than myself and we grew up together and had many a good time. We kept in touch over the years and I am glad his suffering is over. He will be missed! - Posted by: Paul LAMOTTE (cousin) on: Jan 09, 2021
