KERRI ANN SMITH-YOUNG
March 18, 1958 - December 13, 2020

It is with immense sadness that the family of Kerri Smith-Young announce her very sudden passing on December 13, 2020.
Kerri leaves to mourn her children, Joel (Lori, Lily, Sage), Dustin (Dee Anna, Lexis, Dustin Jr., Scarlett, Ryland), Kelsi (Trent, Venna, Sloan), and Shea (Chad, Nova, Nyah). Kerri is survived by her sisters, Linda Plouffe (Bill) and Delaine (Emerson); brothers, Reyner and Kevin; brothers and sisters-in-law, especially Janice and Shane Stephenson - her Las Vegas cohorts and numerous nieces and nephews. Kerri was predeceased by her loving husband Kim, mother Margaret, father Joseph and her in-laws, James and Peggy.
Kerri was born in Winnipeg, MB and lived her early years there. Her love of fashion was evident and she worked many years for a few Winnipeg high fashion outlets. She met the love of her life Kim and moved to Great Falls, MB in 1989 where she raised her family and resided until the time of her passing. There they shared many happy memories, family get togethers, annual pig roasts, mucker tournaments and birthday celebrations. Kerri took pride in her yard, planting flowers each year and making sure it looked exactly how she wanted - welcoming and beautiful.
Anyone who knew Kerri knew her to always be looking her best. Sporting her signature red lipstick and wearing her hoop earrings and bangles everywhere she went. She had a love for the beach and spent many summers at Grand Beach with her family and friends. Kerri also loved spending summers camping, sitting around the fire listening to her favourite music with her sidekick Roxy right along side her. She found a new love for travelling over the last few years and enjoyed planning the next trip.
Kerri was a woman of compassion and a great nurturer at heart. She was the heart of her family and held them together in so many ways. At the centre of everything and always only wanting peace and warmth between everyone. Family meant everything to her as she was always a phone call away and willing to help anyone at any time. She had great love for her children and her grandchildren whom she absolutely adored and they adored her. They were her world.
Kerri was looking forward to this upcoming year. Welcoming a new grand baby in April, planning and celebrating her youngest daughter Shea's wedding in June and celebrating many milestone birthdays. Our lives will never be the same again and our hearts will be forever broken.

We'll keep watching for your dimes Mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Wish Foundation or an animal charity of your choice.

With illusions of someday
cast in a golden light
No dress rehearsal
this is our life

Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • Kerri: Today (March 18) we would be celebrating your 63rd birthday. Still can not believe that you are not with us. Seems like you are on holiday somewhere. Everyone misses you greatly. The girls are doing the best they can. I have not gone out to your home yet, I think that it will be the stark realization that you are no longer with us. We still do not know why you were taken from us and probably will not for a while. We celebrated Nova's 6th birthday. She is such a little girl now. We are awaiting the birth of Shea and Chad's new little girl. Some happiness during this time. We all wish that you were with us. It was going to be such a great year. Love you and miss you sister, always. Linda - Posted by: Linda Plouffe (Sister) on: Mar 18, 2021

  • Kerri, Chibuya and I were so saddened and shocked to hear of your sudden passing. Although we didn’t see each other often, I can’t remember a single time where you didn’t have a smile and a kind word. The world will be a lesser place without you. To Kelsi, Shea and the rest of your family, our deepest sympathies for your loss. - Posted by: Jim & Chibuya (Extended Family) on: Jan 27, 2021

  • Sister: This year was to be filled with celebration and new beginings. Now there is just and empty void the will take time to fill. I am happy that you lived the past few years as you chose. Free to travel, making your home beautiful and welcoming and loving your family with all of your heart. I will miss our weekly calls catching up and planning family events. Trust that I will do what I can for your girls. Their hearts are filled with so much sorrow. All they want is to have their mother back as do all of your children. Roxie misses you as well but is doing fine. We will love you and miss you forever little sister. Enjoy that beach until we all see you again. • So sad to hear of Kerri’s passing. My husband and I met Kerri and Kim at the Lakeview. Kerri and I were both going through the same things with our husbands and we had many conversations about it. After our husbands both passed away within weeks of each other, I ran into her again and we shared hugs and a very long conversation. She was a beautiful person inside and out. My sincere condolences to all her family. Heaven has gained an angel way too soon. - Posted by: Chris Pochinko (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2021

  • Dear Kelsi and Shea, I am so saddened to read about the loss of your mom. I know you are still grieving the loss of your dad. She was so kind and friendly to me when I taught you both at Centennial School in Lac du Bonnet. It is so true about the red lipstick and the bangles, I can see them clearly. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. My heart goes out to you and your little girls. - Posted by: Heather Korlak (Friend ) on: Jan 09, 2021

  • Our most heartfelt condolences to your family on Kerri's passing. Kerri was a very kind lady, hard worker and a pleasure to be around. We walked together in the Relay for Life, shared grandchildren pictures or just enjoyed each other's company over a drink. I will miss seeing her smiling face. • Our hearts are truly broken for Kerri’s family. Kerri was always so welcoming with her warm smile and she would always have something kind and nice to tell me about my own daughter when we met. She would also praise Shea telling me what a wonderful Mother and Daughter she was and then saying how lucky she was to have to have both her Beautiful daughters and grandchildren. When we spoke I could always here the pride and love she had for her family. Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers. ❤️ - Posted by: Laurie & Steve Kingsland (Family Friend through our Daughters) on: Jan 09, 2021
