DOROTHY ELIZABETH BAXTER
March 19, 1936 - December 31, 2020
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her sister Valerie Chitty, brother Gerry Baxter, many nieces and nephews, and the L'Arche Winnipeg community.
She was predeceased by her parents, Phyllis and Robert Baxter, her sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Terry Ryan, her brothers, Paul and Bobby, her brother-in-law Al Chitty and nephew Paul Chitty.
Dorothy lived with her parents until age 32, then with her sister Valerie Chitty and family. In 1974 she became a member of the L'Arche Winnipeg Community. Dorothy was a vibrant member of L'Arche and will be sadly missed. This community provided Dorothy with enduring love, compassion and a strong sense of belonging. Dorothy was happiest when she was busy working or volunteering. She loved to be involved with her family and friends. Dorothy also enjoyed bowling, singing, dancing and socializing. She was able with support to travel extensively and especially loved cruises. She had a deep Catholic faith which was supported by the L'Arche community. She was polite, appreciative, outspoken and at times could be quite funny.
A family graveside service was held Friday, January 8, 2021. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date.
Her family is forever grateful to L'Arche Winnipeg for helping Dorothy live her best life. If so desired, donations can be made to L'Arche Winnipeg, 118 Regent Ave. E., Winnipeg, MB R2C 0C1 or www.larchewinnipeg.org

I recall Dorothy's first visit to L'Arche Winnipeg in 1974 and her clearly stated wish to move into the community. She quickly adapted to life in L'Arche and was so well supported by her family, especially Valerie. One of the highlights for me was when she came to visit me in Australia in the mid 1980's - what an adventure that was for her. I always enjoyed catching up with her whenever I had the opportunity to visit L'Arche Winnipeg, most recently in 2019. Dear Dorothy, thank you for all you contributed to all our lives. May you rest in peace, Eileen Glass - Posted by: Eileen Glass (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2021
