ANNE ELEANORA ASSELSTINE
(née JOHNSON)
November 15, 1933 - January 6, 2021
Anne is predeceased by her husband Cliff; daughter Christine; and two sisters, Inga Smart and Julia Wyton. Anne is survived by her two brothers, Harvey and Larry Johnson; daughter Joanne (Frank); son David (Caroline), son Paul (Shaunna), son Ryan (Lesli); eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Anne was one of five children to Joe and Elsie (née Ebbeling) Johnson. She was born on the family farm just east of Moosomin, SK, close to the Manitoba border. At the age of 16, Anne left the farm to board in Moosomin so that she could graduate high school. While waitressing to put herself through school, Anne fell in love with a frequent late-night patron, Cliff (1929-2015). In 1956, she graduated as a registered nurse and shortly thereafter married Cliff. In 1958, they moved to Birtle to start a new life raising five children and starting two businesses. There was never a moment that went by where Anne wasn't thinking about someone else, especially her children. She is remembered for her selflessness, compassion, along with an amazing sense of humour. But perhaps most of all, she will be remembered for her unconditional and unwavering love of family. As we grieve the passing of Anne, we are comforted knowing that she is once again with Christine and Cliff - together again, this time for eternity.
A family service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Anne's family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by visiting her tribute page at EthicalDeathCare.com. A photo-biography, as well as memories and stories published by those who knew her, are available there.
To the staff at the River East Personal Care Home, we thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts, for the comfort and care you provided Anne through these unprecedented and challenging times.
