JOHN MCINTYRE
May 19, 1942 - January 1, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden loss of John.
John leaves behind his wife Patti, son Ian (Sandee), his sister Marion (Ian) and their children, Debbie and Chris, as well as a whole passel of in-laws (outlaws) and friends to whom he totally endeared himself over the years. We will miss him.
John was born in Forfar, Angus, Scotland to Ian and Ena McIntyre. He began life on the family farm until they moved to Brechin and lived across from his grandparents. John remained close with his mother but lived with his father after they divorced. John was happy to welcome his stepmother, Ann Penman when his father remarried and his new sister Marion a few years later.
In 1960 John's father showed him a recruitment ad for the Hudson's Bay Company for young men to work in remote areas of Canada. After an interview in Aberdeen, at just 17 years old, John signed on with the "Company of Adventurers" and spent 13 years as a "Bay Boy", working in 40 communities across Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, snowmobiling, and flying in small planes. His reputation as a fix-it guy found him spending his free time helping bush pilots transport gas and fish, building hunting and fishing cabins, and on countless hunting, fishing and curling trips with friends.
John was eventually posted to Churchill with Hudson Bay Company. He assembled snowmobiles, owned a taxicab and eventually travelled the north for the Government of the North West Territories. John began a 30 year career with Steel Gas/Stittco Utilities in 1975, working his way up to Manager of the Thompson operation. In Thompson he rekindled his early love of golf and played every weekend the weather allowed and enjoyed many golfing trips with his buddies.
John shared with family that the two best things in his life were his wife and son. While he loved his comforts, he never missed Ian's hockey practice, games, or trips, even when it meant travelling by bus or sleeping on a gym floor.
John retired in 2006 and moved to Gimli, where he made the Teulon Golf Course his weekday home (leaving the weekends for those poor folks who still had to work for a living)!
We will meet John on the fairway in our next life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

  • I met John at Teulon golf course years back, all of us senior golfers will miss John. From the first time I played with him, I found him to be a very quiet, friendly, gentle person, who showed he was happy to be out there golfing.. although I didn't play in his group every day, we would cross paths somewhere on the course or parking lot, with a friendly, enthusiastic hello and a smile.. - Posted by: Dennis vande (golf friend) on: Jan 10, 2021
