MICHAEL BATENCHUK
He was predeceased by his brother Philip Batenchuk, and mourned by his mother Viola and nieces, Dawn and Carey, as well as relatives in Winnipeg.
Michael was raised by his mother in the Lockport area. As an adult, he developed mental health issues and thus lived very closely and co-dependently with his mother, helping her live at home, well into her 90s, with trips to Winnipeg, outings and errands. He is remembered as having a quirky sense of humour and in his younger years enjoyed drawing and had an appreciation for First Nations art. In his recent years he found freedom in walking and dreamed of returning to British Columbia one day.
The family would like to deeply thank the Diakow family for being his main support over the past year; as well as the community of the Selkirk area and the local RCMP for doing all that they could to try to keep him safe and for offering the extra support when needed.
To raise awareness and funds for improving Mental Health services please donate to Homewood Research Institute.

Went to Churchill High School with Mike, in the latter part of the 1960s. I knew his brother Phil when both, Mike and Phil lived on Morley Avenue in Winnipeg. We had some great times together in those school years. Lost touch with Mike through the years and was saddened to learn of Mike's set-back with mental illness. RIP Michael and we will meet again, under much, better circumstances in the future. - Posted by: Randy Fisher (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2021

My deepest sympathies. I did not know Michael Perry, but I felt like I did know him. There was not a day that I did not see him walking on the shoulder of that highway on my way home. Rain or shine, Hot or cold. In the summer with his shirt off from the heat. When I heard the news I was hoping it was not him until I just saw this announcement. I am very saddened. - Posted by: Fatima Cyrenne (Acquaintance ) on: Jan 18, 2021
