JOY ELIZABETH HENDRICKS
(nee VAN STAVEL)
August 10, 1939 - January 5, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother.
Our profound loss is shared by many relatives and friends.
Joy was the youngest child of Rev. Joseph and Abigail (nee Adams) van Stavel. She was predeceased by her parents; parents-in-law, Rev. Edgar and Olive Hendricks; her two brothers, Joe and Frank; sister-in-law Alice (Frank); four brothers-in-law, Isaac Saunders, Norman Cairns, Brian Hendricks and Fred Walker; and dearly beloved Katie Booysen.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Errol; and daughter Arlene; her sisters, Annette Saunders, Joan Cairns; sisters-in-law Nerine Walker, Estelle Hendricks, and their extended families.
Joy was very involved with the music program at Transcona United Church for 25 years. She was a kind, gentle, loyal and very generous lady.
Joy and Errol arrived in Winnipeg from Cape Town, South Africa on August 14, 1964 shortly after their marriage, two months earlier, on June 20.
Cremation has already occurred. Arrangements for interment will happen at a later date.
The book of condolences can be signed, and more of Joy's life can be viewed by visiting Joy's memorial page at seaonsfunerals.ca.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We have had the pleasure of knowing Joy for over 50 years, starting from when both the Hendricks and the Blankenberg families moved to Winnipeg from South Africa. We did not know each other in South Africa. We first met as library staff members at the University of Manitoba Elizabeth Dafoe Library in the mid sixties. Both families enjoyed many happy times together. We remember Joy's warm welcome at their front door in Transcona. It seemed like a longish trip from St.James-Assiniboia! We also remember her wonderful cooking and shared memories of our lives in South Africa. We now live in New Zealand, but our years of a steady affectionate relationship have never been forgotten. Our condolences to Errol and Arlene, and their extended families. Sue and Brian Blankenberg - Posted by: Suzanne & Brian Blankenberg (Friends) on: Jan 17, 2021

  • I will be forever grateful to Joy for accompanying me during vocal exams and recitals. She was a kind hearted and gracious lady. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Sincerely, Ember Benson - Posted by: Ember Benson (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2021
