Have you ever had to say goodbye to aunt Joanie? She would stand in the open doorway, Even in the winter. The front door, wide open. Even with the cold winter air blowing into the house, she would always take forever to say goodbye: "Okay so I guess this is it, you'd better go, you have a long drive to get home, you're letting in the cold, hey did you want to take home some perogies? I made lots, okay, thanks for coming, are you sure you didn't want more? I should have made more. It's okay, just bring back the dish next time. I'll come out and see you guys soon. Okay, so you'd better go. Okay, so this is it then... They say it might snow tonight, so you'd better be careful. You know those roads get pretty slippery... okay, take care, see you soon." - Posted by: cliff kafka (nephew) on: Mar 22, 2021

For many good years Joan and I worked together at Miles Mac. She was such a dedicated staff member who always looked her very best. It was comfortable talking with Joan, she listened closely and always had a comforting, hopeful word to offer. Joan had a real sense of fun and her genuine laugh was contagious so that it was a pleasure to see her every day. Joan's lively, sincere spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and may this be a comfort to those of us left behind. - Posted by: Lynne Strome (friend) on: Jan 18, 2021

My sincerest sympathy. I spent my teens at the Schmuland's growing up with Debra. Always enjoyed chatting with Mrs. Schmuland and always watching her keep her house so meticulous. It always amazed me as she never stopped cleaning and enjoyed it. She was always kind to me and made me feel at home. My thoughts are with Debra and her siblings during this time.
