DALE HARTLEY
Dale was born February 24, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and resided there his entire life. He spent several decades in the construction industry as the founder of Har-Kal Construction, working on many projects throughout the city. Dale was happiest when outside, being of service and working on projects. He spent many spring and fall weekends volunteering his services to friends in the farming industry, helping with planting and harvesting crops in the Selkirk area. He loved anything with an engine and looked for every opportunity to get behind the wheel of whatever he could drive from a Harley to a John Deere tractor to a freightliner and everything in between. Dale served as the President of Kinsmen Club where he worked on many projects to better his community and fostered many meaningful friendships. He enjoyed weekend ski trips to Mount Agassiz, snowmobiling, and road trips, seeing much of the US, Canada and Mexico that way.
Dale will be deeply missed by his wife Beverley Hartley, sons, Cameron (Sophie) Hartley and Wade Hartley, grandchildren, Peyton, Kennedy and Blake Hartley, sister Marlene (Donald) Steele, nephews, Brent and Jeff Steele, and stepsons, Perry (Stacey) Knight and their daughters, Ivy and Lily, and Wylie (Sharon) Knight and their son Joshua and daughter Tess. Dale had numerous friendships spanning decades and will be missed by many.
No service has been planned at this time.

I am so sorry that I didn't know of Dale's passing at the time but I wish I had stayed in closer contact with him. I worked as his bookkeeper when he owned Alstar Auto Electric. He was the best boss. Dale and Wade both worked in the office with me and when I left them I missed them terribly. I will forever remember Dale. - Posted by: Janice Kui (Friend) on: Apr 29, 2025

Bev and family. I was just talking to Carol Hiebert and she told me of Dale's passing. I don’t know the two of you very well but when Carol and Dave had their yearly X-mas get together and you and Dale were there we both were pretty good telling jokes to see who could out do the other.. he seemed like a man who appreciated people. And what a sense of humour he had... I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Just think of all the wonderful memories you have of Dale. They truly will help you and your family to ease the loss of your loved one . Carole Kowaliuk ❤️ - Posted by: Carole kowaliuk (Friend) on: Mar 06, 2021

I remember heading to Gramma’s for dinner to meet my ‘new uncle’. A young teen, I was resistant to this idea as I had been quite happy with my ‘old uncle’. When we arrived, I noticed some snake skin cowboy boots. Hmm, maybe this won’t be too terrible after all. Anyone that knows Dale knows just how lucky I was that day and forward, how lucky we all were, to know somebody so special. He touched the lives of my entire family, and our bonds with him couldn’t be stronger. Dale was accepting, loving, non-judgmental, inquisitive, entertaining, hilarious, and so darn cool. He loved my Auntie Joan (Beverly Joan) so much, and she in return. He was filled with love for his family, children, and grandchildren, and spoke of them consistently. What Dale leaves behind is a massive warm space filled with nothing but love and good memories. We are all privileged to have known such a man. Dale will always be missed, never forgotten, and always loved. Cheers to you Uncle Dale, and thank you for being amazing. - Posted by: Janelle Bailey (Niece) on: Jan 24, 2021

I had the honour and privilege of working with Dale and his Har-Kal Construction team on a number of projects he did for the company I then worked for. I have many wonderful memories but first and foremost is Dale defined honesty, fair dealing, put-it-all-on-the-table openness and integrity be it customers, staff or suppliers. Although it has been decades since we last talked I can hear his voice, his laugh as clear as if I were with him now. That voice was always asking, with genuine interest, how I was, how I was doing, and that laugh and his smile were a constant. While it has been a long time since we talked I think of him often as we have in our home a beautiful solid wood mantle over the fire place which was a gift from Dale. He'd been at our home as he was interested in the 100 year old stone basement (another thing about Dale, --- endless curiosity) and had noted the fireplace, and ran his hand along the warped cracked mantle. He didn't say anything then but a month or two later showed up with a new, beautiful, perfect mantle. Somehow, by eye only, he'd got it exactly the right size and he took the old one out and slid the new one in! He'd not take a penny for it and unless you think he was 'looking after' a customer this was several years after I'd left the company which had hired Har-Kal and my new career held zero prospects of ever needing a contractor. While the construction problems he solved were important his biggest contribution to my life was the warm, kind, generous, upright role model he presented. - Posted by: Sheldon M Bowles (Friend and customer ) on: Jan 23, 2021
