JAN KRAY
(nee TROCHLUK)
July 27, 1932 - January 21, 2021

In God's timing, our Mom passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 21, 2021. At Mom's request and for the safety of all there will be no funeral. Our family will celebrate her life-well-lived at a later date.
She will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Cemetery, with her husband Mickey, who left her side 25 years ago this coming October.
Jan is survived by her three children, Randy (Kim), Pamela (Mike) and Andrew (Merrilee); her grandchildren, Jesse (Allison), Will (Meaghan), Madeleine (Ben), Quinn (Harris), Jack and Sam; and --special to mom-- her honorary grandchild Jayda (Laz), and their son Jensen; nephew Ron Chatfield; cousins, Barbara and Gary Pajak; and her dear Michigan niece and nephews, Mary-Ann, Robert and Richard Killewald (distance had no chance against the connection Mom had with them and their families). Mom was predeceased by her brother Walter Trochluk, her husband Mickey Kray, her sister Ollie Finch and her beloved niece Diane Chatfield.
Mom was a strong, stylish, forward thinking feminist who advocated for equality and inclusion. She was matter of fact and opinionated, respectful and empathetic, and always had a warm spot in her heart for the less fortunate. We all benefited from her wisdom and advice, her passion for human rights, her love of learning, and certainly her wonderful home cooking.
Mom had a very close relationship with her God and enjoyed many years of worship at Holy Redeemer Parish, bringing a compassionate and liberal voice to their fold.
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Fred Douglas Heritage House, who lovingly helped care for Mom these past two years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Jan's favourite charities: Rossbrook House or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Dear Kray family, I am sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. While I hadn't seen her in years, I have very fond memories of happy days living on Sharron Bay. Your parents were both so welcoming to the children in the area. I loved your Mom's big hugs and smiles when I ran into her in adult years. She encompassed all with great love and kindness. • Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to all the Kray family. Jan was a very devoted parishioner, a loyal member of our Ladies Auxiliary. We have wonderful memories of her in the parish kitchen preparing for the annual fall suppers, the annual Mother’s Day Butter tart sale! She was precise and insisted on certain ingredients...like the GOLDEN sultana raisins...no substitutes for her tart recipe! She is definitely missed but her memory lives on in our hearts and minds. Rest In Peace.🙏🏻 - Posted by: June Gray (Fellow parishioner/ Ladies Auxiliary Holy Redeemer Parish) on: Feb 02, 2021
